CLAIRE DANES is a bona fide 1990s style icon. But as a teen, I wasn’t buying it. According to an entry in my 9th-grade journal, I found the grungy, oversize tartan flannels she wore as Angela on “My So-Called Life,” the decade’s must-watch high-school drama, to be “totally fake.” I scorned the look’s unearned angst and Danes’s instant fashion-darling status—that is, until she appeared on the Oscars red carpet in 1997. Then 17, the starlet swapped her sloppy, plaid pile-on for a blue, Narciso Rodriguez bias-cut silk skirt and matching cashmere T-shirt.

That combination proved perfect for the darkly comic, morally murky world of “Justified.” Olyphant’s performance in the series shifted his previously hit-and-miss career into a higher gear, which in turn has made his future prospects less dependent on the success of the “Justified” revival. Premiering Thursday on Max, the gripping six-episode serial revolves around a botched kidnapping with international repercussions. “Full Circle” was directed by Steven Soderbergh, the latest on a list of talented people with whom Olyphant long wanted to work and now has. Kenneth Lonergan made him the center of his acclaimed play “Hold On to Me Darling” (2016). “You can throw Larry David on the list,” Olyphant said, referring to his appearance as a smarmy groom in “Curb Your Enthusiasm” in 2020.

CNN —The nominees for the 80th Golden Globe Awards were announced on Monday. Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva, two of the stars from “Lopez vs. Lopez,” announced the range of film and television nominees as selected by members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Favored Oscars contender “The Banshees of Inisherin” led the film categories, with nominations including best musical or comedy film. It stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. The ceremony, which was not broadcast last January over controversy surrounding the HFPA, will return to NBC on Jan. 10.

CNN —If you find yourself disliking everyone in Hulu’s too precious “Fleishman is in Trouble,” don’t worry, because it’s not clear they like themselves. Brodesser-Akner writes for the New York Times magazine, which becomes readily apparent in this Manhattan-centered story about the angst-ridden well to do, which approximates what the Times’ Sunday Styles section would look like if it sprouted legs. The initial focus is on newly divorced Toby Fleishman (Eisenberg), whose story is told by his college friend Libby (Caplan), serving as the relentless narrator of everyone’s innermost thoughts. The series periodically flashes back to Toby and Rachel’s younger days, showing how they met and how the relationship soured. “Fleishman is in Trouble” premieres November 17 on Hulu.
