"This development does not immediately impact the feasibility assessment of the larger hub project," Glencore said in an emailed statement. This initiative is important for our recycling strategy and aligns with Italy's objectives for sustainable industry development," the group added. Last month, Reuters reported that documents filed by Glencore as part of the environmental impact assessment procedure had been judged insufficient by Sardinia's regional administration.

The Franco-Italian group in June said it planned to produce five new models in Melfi - where it employs more than 5,000 workers - with the fifth one "subject to performance improvement". Marco Lomio, the local head of UILM, said Melfi workers are called to an 8 hour strike on each of Monday's three scheduled shifts, with a total halt of the facility on that day. The strike is not related to the ongoing action by United Auto Workers in the U.S. at three factories owned by General Motors (GM.N), Ford Motor (F.N) and Chrysler parent Stellantis.

CNN —A winemaker in Italy has died while trying to save his colleague who had passed out in wine vat, according to Italy’s fire brigade. Authorities responded to the emergency call on Thursday at the Ca’di Rajo winery in San Polo di Piave, in the city of Treviso in northern Italy. According to the fire brigade, the man in his forties was trying to save his colleague who had fainted from carbon monoxide fumes while carrying out maintenance work. The two men were working in a processing tank that had just been emptied of wine for bottling when they were overcome by fumes from the fermentation process. Neither men were wearing breathing apparatuses or safety harnesses, according to the fire brigade.

MILAN, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Amazon (AMZN.O) does not plan to cut any jobs in Italy despite a drop in volumes last year, trade unions said on Tuesday after a video meeting with a company representative. Italian trade unions FIT-CISL, Filt-CGIL and UIL Trasporti said in separate statements that during the meeting, called in response to news reports, an Amazon Italy manager said there was no reason for Italian workers to worry. The manager added that there would likely be cuts in the workforce in Britain and Spain, according to FIT-CISL. Amazon Italy declined to comment on the meeting but said the company stood by the comments made by Chief Executive Andy Jassy on Jan. 5 about its plans to cut over 18,000 jobs. MILAN, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Four auto groups believe pay increase requests proposed by Italian unions, including a 8.4% annual rise for next year, is too high, the UILM union said on Wednesday as talks got underway. The FIM-CISL, UILM, Fismic, UGLM and AQCF unions also requested wage increases of 4.5% for 2024 and 2.5% for 2025 to help workers recover purchasing power lost due to a Europe-wide spike in consumer price inflation. He added Stellantis considered the new contract it is discussing with unions a "valuable tool" to achieve its competitiveness ambitions in Italy. Unions and the companies have scheduled seven more meetings to be held between mid-November and mid-December.
