Photo Illustrating Coinbase in Suqian, Jiangsu Province, China on June 6, 2023 (Photo Illustration by Costfoto/NurPhoto via Getty Images)British regulators fined Coinbase's U.K. arm £3.5 million ($4.5 million) on Thursday over breaching a voluntary agreement designed to stop the cryptocurrency exchange from onboarding "high-risk customers." CB Payments Limited (CBPL) is part of the Coinbase Group, which operates a global crypto trading platform. In October 2020, CBPL entered into a voluntary agreement with the U.K.'s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), accepting restrictions that prevented it from taking on new customers that the regulator considered high-risk. However, CBPL breached the agreement and onboarded and served 13,416 of so-called high-risk customers, the FCA said. These funds were used to make withdrawals and execute crypto transactions via other Coinbase entities, totaling approximately $226 million.

Turning the tide in the Black SeaSwedish Marines also operate the CB90-class fast assault craft. Following a six-month effort by Steel Front and Ukrainian steel giant Metinvest, the three vessels and crew training for Ukrainian forces cost more than $4.1 million. In total, Sweden has provided at least 13 CB90s to Ukraine's navy. The Netherlands donated nearly two dozen inflatable and armored boats, including three CB90s, to Ukraine in March. It wasn't immediately clear what type of vessels were sent, but Finnish media speculated them to operate similarly to the Swedish CB-90.

Kushner started Affinity in 2021, shortly after leaving his advisory role in the White House alongside his wife, Ivanka Trump. Neumann, who was ultimately ousted from WeWork by top SoftBank execs, introduced Kushner to Unybrands early the following year. Affinity's investment in Unybrands, which hasn't previously been reported, was one of the private equity firm's earliest deals. Following a continued slide, the company laid off roughly 10% of its staff in November 2022, according to people familiar with the matter. The House Oversight Committee launched an investigation into the investment in 2022, looking into whether Kushner's financial interests influenced Trump's foreign policy.

Survivors recounted giving birth to children fathered by Boko Haram fighters, often when they were still minors themselves. Under the proposal, gig workers would be paid an hourly rate of $19.97 for their time spent retrieving and delivering orders. Instead, gig workers would get paid 35 cents per mile — down from the current 74 cents. In emails and calls to action sent to gig workers, DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, and others have claimed that there are fewer orders for gig workers to claim. In 2009, long before Jeff Yass became a Republican megadonor, his firm, Susquehanna International Group, invested in a Chinese real estate start-up that boasted a sophisticated search algorithm. Behind the scenes, employees of a Chinese subsidiary of Mr. Yass’s firm were so deeply involved, records show, that they conceived the idea for the company and handpicked its chief executive. They said in one email that he was not the company’s “real founder.”As a real estate venture, 99Fang ultimately fizzled. They say that 99Fang’s chief executive — and the search technology — resurfaced at another Susquehanna venture: ByteDance. ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, is now one of the world’s most highly valued start-ups, worth $225 billion, according to CB Insights, a firm that tracks venture capital.

The Denver-Boulder metro region in Colorado is among the winners in the migration shuffle. Led by Denver and Boulder, Colorado has built a thriving tech industry ecosystem attracting both startups and tech giants — Google, Amazon and Salesforce all now have a major presence in the area. CNBCOver the last five years, about $17 billion in VC funding has poured into the area, according to research firm CB Insights. While the Denver startup community has seen dramatic expansion, it hasn't made as much progress on diversifying its business community. However, even the top 10 cities for Black-owned business growth in the study fall far short of corresponding metro population metrics.

The U.S. Investors Caught in the Scrum Over TikTok
  + stars: | 2024-03-26 | by ( Lauren Hirsch | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
For years, the U.S. investors who backed ByteDance, the Chinese internet company that owns TikTok, have wrestled with the complexities of owning a piece of a geopolitically fraught social media app. A bill to force ByteDance to sell TikTok is winding its way through the Senate after sailing through the House this month. In December, a Missouri pension board voted to divest from some Chinese investments, following political pressure from the state treasurer. The Beijing-based company has grown into one of the world’s most highly valued start-ups, worth $225 billion, according to CB Insights. That’s a boon, at least on paper, for U.S. investors who put money into ByteDance when it was a smaller company.

A big selling point of bitcoin exchange-traded funds was their potential to reduce bitcoin's notorious volatility over time. He pointed to funding rates for bitcoin futures contracts, which have soared recently to levels not seen since early 2021. Additionally, open interest, or the number of open positions for a bitcoin futures contract, is at all-time highs. "Realized crypto [volatility] will likely ease as funding rates normalize," Glass said. "Those recurring inflows could dampen volatility of large moves from momentum strategies which basically chase price up and down and amplify swings."

OpenAI has completed a deal that values the San Francisco artificial intelligence company at $80 billion or more, nearly tripling its valuation in less than 10 months, according to three people with knowledge of the deal. The company would sell existing shares in a so-called tender offer led by the venture firm Thrive Capital, the people said. The deal lets employees cash out their shares in the company, rather than a traditional funding round that would raise money for business operations. The deal is another example of the Silicon Valley deal-making machine pumping money into a handful of companies that specialize in generative A.I. The funding boom kicked off early last year, after OpenAI captured the public’s imagination with the release of the online chatbot ChatGPT.

Most menopause care startups, including Midi, sell into enterprises to offer the service as a benefit to employees. US companies lose about $1.8 billion each year from workdays missed due to menopause symptoms, according to a Mayo Clinic estimate. While venture funding to women's health startups fell in 2023, according to CB Insights, startups tackling menopause symptoms surged ahead of the pack. Data shows these startups raised $230 million last year, making up a third of all funding to women's health startups.
