A white Florida woman who fatally shot her Black neighbor through a locked door was sentenced to 25 years in prison Monday for the "completely unnecessary" gunfire. Marion County Circuit Court Judge Robert Hodges said Susan Louise Lorincz, 60, did "significant harm" to the victim and her family. Pamela Dias, the victim's mother, said the slaying has impacted every aspect of her life. When Owens knocked on her door, the defense team's psychologist said Monday that Lorincz’s PTSD led her to make a tragically bad choice. “She’s perceiving that the door, the locked door with the bolt, will not hold, and that Ms. Owens is going to victimize her.

Instead, I visited St. Augustine, Florida, for a taste of Spain in the United States. I loved seeing beautiful architecture and tasting Spanish cuisine without leaving my home state. Luckily, I live near St. Augustine, Florida — the oldest city in the US. The Spanish influence is visible all over the city's architectureMore showcases of Spanish architecture can be found around the city. The Flordia chain has been around since 1905, and there's a St. Augustine location on St. George Street in the Historic District.

CNN —An armed group has taken control of a military post in central Bolivia, the country’s armed forces said on Friday. According to the Bolivian military’s statement, the “irregular armed group” kidnapped military personnel and seized weapons and ammunition from the base situated near the central Bolivian city of Cochabamba. Bolivian president Luis Arce said that the armed group was “affiliated” with former president Evo Morales, but did not offer evidence for the claim. The blockades, which Bolivian police said involve “violent armed groups,” have led to food and fuel shortages in some cities. CNN has reached out to the Bolivian government for more information on the events at the military base.

Against this backdrop, Wolfe Research released a basket of stocks that might be impaired under a Trump presidency. These companies would be at risk either under a 10% universal duty or 60% China tariffs. Beauty and cosmetics manufacturer Estée Lauder , down about 40% this year, could also face repercussions under a Trump win. Analyst Angel Castillo's revised price target of $332, down from $349, is approximately 14% lower than where shares closed on Wednesday. Other than these stocks sensitive to tariffs, Wolfe Research also suggested a few other ways to play the election.

Women make up roughly half of U.S. labor union membership, but representation in top level union leadership positions has lagged, even in female-dominated industries and particularly for women of color. Data from the U.S. Department of Labor shows that Black and Latina women experience a particularly wide gender pay gap. Juliana Yamada / APBlack and Latina women are driving labor union growth in the U.S. amid a decades-long decline in membership. In 2023, Black women’s union membership rate notched a slight bump from 10.3% to 10.5%, while Latinas went up from 8.5% to 8.8%. Momentum for Black and Latina women rising into labor union leadership has picked up in the last five years.

Victims' families and a survivor of a Maryland bridge collapse that killed six people filed claims Friday for wrongful death and punitive damages against the owner and the operator of the massive cargo ship that crashed into the bridge earlier this year. The 100,000-plus-ton ship Dali slammed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in the early hours of March 26 as a work crew was fixing potholes. Six construction workers died when the bridge went crumbling down into the Patapsco River. The nearly two dozen crew members on the ship survived, along with two pilots who were helping the vessel navigate the harbor. Days after the bridge collapse, the ship’s Singapore-based owner and manager petitioned a Maryland court to limit their monetary liability to $43.67 million, the value of the ship and its cargo, based on a pre-Civil War provision of maritime law.
