But here's the root of Thursday's selling: Honeywell downwardly revised its full-year guidance for segment margin, earnings per share, and cash flow guidance. The changes are tied to the inclusion of previously closed and announced acquisitions, as well as a slower-than expected-rebound for short-cycle businesses. Unfortunately, despite some "pockets of short-cycle strength," other short-cycle businesses "are not accelerating as much as we had hoped," CFO Greg Lewis said on the call. In a virtual presentation to pitch his closed-end vehicle Pershing Square USA Ltd., the billionaire investor recalled discovering Buffett's writing in his early 20s and learning from the unusual career path of the "Oracle of Omaha." And that story was really the inspiration behind launching Pershing Square." The 58-year-old Ackman has mostly achieved that goal with almost 90% of Pershing's assets now in a permanent capital format . Most of its capital is in Pershing Square Holdings, a $15 billion closed-end fund that trades in Europe. So my ambition was to get to a very similar place as Warren Buffett as promptly and as practicable," Ackman said.

They expose decades of American corporate philosophy gone awry. A good American company isn’t just a vehicle for financial returns; it is first and foremost an employer, a contributor to economic and/or technological innovation, and a source of US power. But it’s clear that what Boeing — and the entire American corporate body politic — needs is nothing short of a philosophical counterrevolution. Over these three decades of plenty for Boeing’s shareholders, the company’s staff was asked to penny-pinch. Boeing’s stock cratered, and France’s Airbus , a rival once colloquially known as “Scare Bus,” started to eat the American company’s lunch .

With a midair emergency, disappointing profit forecast and more aircraft groundings after only two weeks, the airline industry is already off to a turbulent 2024. Dividend-paying stocks took a backseat to this year's tech-driven market rally, but 2024 could be the year that they come back in vogue. A couple of catalysts could swing the pendulum back in favor of dividend payers in 2024, including the Fed's forecast for three rate cuts in the new year. "Not only do you get the dividend yield and dividend growth, but you get some capital appreciation perhaps – that's where it gets interesting," he added. Special dividend payers Kim Abmeyer, certified financial planner and founder of Abmeyer Wealth Management in Dallas, sees dividend-paying stocks coming into focus for 2024. Many Nvidia employees have become incredibly rich after the company's stock is up by about 1,200% over the past five years. Nvidia employees are also rarely put on performance-improvement plans, unlike some of its competitors, such as Amazon . Despite a growing number of companies launching their own in-house chips, Nvidia employees say they don't feel the competitive pressure yet. Three Nvidia employees, however, told BI that those chips never came up in customer conversations because, in their view, of Nvidia's superior performance. I've also helped clients over the years who have inherited money or had a trust fund they were finally getting access to.
