President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday selected Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright to serve as the next energy secretary of the United States. Wright serves on the board of Oklo , a nuclear power startup backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman that is developing micro reactors. Wright will also serve on Trump's Council of National Energy, the president-elect said Saturday. "There is no climate crisis and we're not in the midst of an energy transition either," Wright said in a video posted on his LinkedIn page last year. "There is no such thing as clean energy or dirty energy," Wright said.

CNN —President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday named Chris Wright, the CEO of Denver-based fracking company Liberty Energy, as his pick to be the next secretary of the Department of Energy. Wright will also serve as a member on the newly formed Council of National Energy, which Trump said will consist of all agencies involved in the “permitting, production, generation, distribution, regulation, transportation” of energy. In addition to his company’s work on fracking oil and natural gas, Wright also sits on the board of a modular nuclear reactor company and has talked about the potential of nuclear energy. Developing nuclear energy has become a big focus of the Biden administration’s Energy Department. “Standing in the way of today’s energy system before we’ve built a new energy system, there’s just no upside in that,” Wright told CNBC.

Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for defense secretary, was involved in a police investigation into an alleged sexual assault in 2017, local officials in California confirmed on Thursday night. A spokesperson for the city government of Monterey, California, said its police department had investigated “an alleged sexual assault” involving Hegseth, a Fox News host and Army National Guard veteran. The statement said that there were no weapons involved, but there were injuries — “contusions to right thigh” — without providing additional details. Describing Trump’s early selections for his administration as “high-caliber and extremely qualified,” Trump’s communications director defended Hegseth in a statement to CNN. Ending the tax credit could have grave implications for an already stalling U.S. EV transition. Representatives with the Trump transition and Tesla did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The alliance last month in an Oct. 15 letter urged Congress to retain the EV tax credits, calling them "critical to cementing the U.S. as a global leader in the future of automotive technology and manufacturing." CNN —JD Vance is making a second pass at introducing himself to America as the Ohio senator attempts to put his uneven rollout as Donald Trump’s running mate in the rearview mirror. Vance is also expected to begin holding news conferences with reporters as early as this week, the source said. At a closed-door fundraiser in Oklahoma City last week, Trump’s finance team was hoping the former president’s new running mate would raise $1 million. The campaign was well aware of Vance’s past criticisms of Trump and the deeply anti-abortion views he vocally defended. Still, people close to both Trump and Vance argue that America has yet to learn how effective the Ohio senator can be when in the spotlight.
