For Disney's fiscal 2025, streaming will generate enough operating income to offset the parallel decline in operating income from linear TV, Johnston said in an interview. Disney projects entertainment direct-to-consumer operating income will increase by about $875 million next year over fiscal year 2024. That would put the division at over $1 billion in operating income for the coming fiscal year. Disney's combined streaming businesses improved their profitability in the company's fiscal fourth quarter, posting operating income of $321 million. For the year, Disney's entertainment streaming platforms (Disney+ and Hulu) made $143 million in operating income.

Lawyers for Mr. Adams had argued that the prosecution’s case fell short of meeting the federal definition of bribery. They pointed to a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that raised the bar for prosecutors to bring corruption cases. Legal experts who reviewed the indictment against Mr. Adams have said that the ruling could present a challenge for prosecutors. He discounted the defense’s argument that because Mr. Adams was Brooklyn borough president when he reached out to the fire commissioner about the consulate building that the act could not be described as bribery. Mr. Scotten noted that the outreach occurred in late summer of 2021, after Mr. Adams had won the Democratic mayoral primary and was all but certain to be New York City’s next mayor.

One of the patients in the McDonald's outbreak suffered from that condition, known as hemolytic uremic syndrome. Hedberg is also a member of the McDonald's Food Safety Advisory Council, but said he has not worked with the company on its response to the outbreak. The size of the outbreak "would imply widespread undercooking by many different individual McDonald's restaurants" if beef was the culprit, according to Hedberg. For example, rival Wendy's dealt with its own link to an E. coli outbreak two years ago. However, that transparency means more media coverage, which reminds consumers about the crisis and risks scaring them away from McDonald's restaurants.

Supreme Court rejects Martin Shkreli fine appeal

The Supreme Court in rejecting that request did not explain its reason for doing so. Shkreli's request that the Supreme Court take his appeal of federal court decision was his last chance to overturn the penalty related to the drug Daraprim . People pass outside the U.S. Supreme Court on October 7, 2024 in Washington, DC. Shkreli in June asked the Supreme Court to hear his appeal of that ruling, but only as it applied to the financial penalty. The attorney said that the Supreme Court should hear Shkreli's appeal to resolve the so-called circuit split on the question of a defendant's financial liability.

In a court filing Monday, Eric Adams argues his bribery charge should be dismissed. The NYC mayor says it was legal for him to accept lavish travel accommodations from Turkey. AdvertisementIn a court filing Monday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams asked a federal judge in Manhattan to dismiss the bribery charge against him, arguing that the lavish travel accommodations he accepted from Turkish officials were gifts, not bribes. "The indictment does not allege that Mayor Adams agreed to perform any official act at the time that he received a benefit," Adams' motion argues. The other charges in Adams' indictment allege he knowingly sought and accepted illegal campaign contributions from corporations and foreign nationals.

As federal investigations swirled around Eric Adams over the past year, the New York City mayor stuck to a familiar script. In one instance, an unidentified Adams staffer agreed to an interview with FBI agents. In March 2019, an Adams staffer was exchanging text messages with the then-Brooklyn borough president about another possible trip to Turkey. “To be o[n the] safe side Please Delete all messages you send me,” the staffer wrote Adams, according to the indictment. Later that day, the Adams staffer visited the businessman at his office and said he had just met with the mayor.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams will step into a Manhattan courtroom and into the history books on Friday when he is arraigned on federal corruption and bribery charges that could force him out of office. Adams is the first sitting New York City mayor to be indicted on criminal charges in the modern era. “This was a multiyear scheme to buy favor with a single New York City politician on the rise,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said Thursday. Adams' indictment capped two weeks of turmoil in his administration, a period during which Banks, the city’s police commissioner, and the city's top lawyer, have announced their resignations. “You could almost picture them trying to cobble this together and try to tell a story so that they could say, ‘corruption, corruption’ at a press conference,” Spiro said at a Thursday press conference.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been hit with five federal charges – including wire fraud, bribery and solicitation of a contribution by a foreign national – according to a sprawling 57-page federal indictment unsealed Thursday. Although the Bentley Suite for two nights would have cost approximately $7,000, Adams paid less than $600, the indictment says.
