The Miami Heat revealed a statue of franchise legend and basketball Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade on Sunday, with the design of the statue immediately going viral and drawing some unwanted comparisons. The statue’s design – which depicts Johnson in various stages of pitching motion – is certainly unique. While the champion does get to take home some silverware, they also receive the distinction of seeing their likeness transformed into a terracotta statue. Andy Murray poses alongside his terracotta sculpture. Mohamed SalahQuestionable statues of soccer superstars seem to be somewhat of a theme.

Italian phenom Jannik Sinner cast aside doping allegations and won his second Grand Slam title of the year, beating American Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in the U.S. Open final Sunday in New York City. He won this year's Australian Open and reached the semifinals of the French Open and Wimbledon before he hoisted another trophy in Queens. Sinner's triumph denied Fritz, a San Diego-area native, his first major title and kept alive a two-decade-long streak of American men’s failing to win the biggest tennis tournament on U.S. soil. Fritz, 26, came close to Grand Slam titles with quarterfinal appearances at Wimbledon and the French Open this year and another round-of-eight visit to Wimbledon in 2022. Sunday's final culminated a U.S. Open rocked by the shocking second-round upset of Alcaraz and the surprising third-round loss by Djokovic, the defending champ.

Tsitsipas ends Murray's hopes with comeback win

The 24-year-old Greek trailed by two sets to one after twice Wimbledon champion Murray edged ahead in three tight sets on Thursday night before Wimbledon's curfew halted play mid-battle. Errors began to come from his racket and Tsitsipas sensed his moment with a break in the third game -- the first time he had taken Murray's serve in the match. Tsitsipas forged 5-3 ahead but Murray hung in to test the Greek's nerve. Two match points went begging but at the third time of asking an ace ended Murray's dream. It was a very difficult game and I'm impressed how well he holds up after his hip surgeries and his level today," Tsitsipas said.

There was so very little to choose between the two combatants in the opening set – just two points separated them, Murray winning 37 points and Tsitsipas 39. One of his 21 clean winners in that opening set came to punch through Murray’s defences for a 4-3 lead in the tiebreak. Two points later he held three set points at 6-3, and converted on his first by out-manoeuvring the Scot to take a one-set lead after just shy of an hour’s play. It was one he would not relinquish and at 10:38pm he fired a service that Tsitsipas could only return long. Tsitsipas stalked off court while Murray collected his bag and the crowd roared their appreciation as the night-time clash ended on a cliff-hanger.

"Obviously it is amazing to be back here on centre court," said former world number one and twice Wimbledon champion Murray after his first-round victory. I wanted to play well ... and once I got the break in that first set, I played some great tennis." "It's been a long time since I've felt physically this good coming into Wimbledon," Murray said. "So I am hoping I am fit and ready for a good run," he added, as the Centre Court whooped and cheered. "I think the main thing that Andy did really well today was he was just relentless on every point.
