— A Washington state man who pleaded guilty to killing at least 118 eagles as part of a wildlife trafficking ring that operated on a Native American Reservation in Montana faces sentencing Thursday before a federal judge. The trafficking ring sold eagle feathers and parts on a black market that exploits high demand among tribal members who use them in powwows and other ceremonies. The defendant and others killed at least 107 hawks and as many as 3,600 birds overall, prosecutors said. It’s illegal to buy or sell eagle feathers or other parts. Branson made between $180,000 and $360,000 from 2009 to 2021 selling bald and golden eagle parts illegally, court records said.

Boeing and Virgin Galactic have settled a lawsuit stemming from Boeing's work on Virgin Galactic's space tourism "mothership," according to a Thursday filing in Virginia federal court. Virgin Galactic attorney Brett Williamson and Boeing said in emails that the lawsuit was "satisfactorily resolved by mutual agreement of the parties." Boeing sued Virgin in March, accusing it of stealing trade secrets and refusing to pay $25 million owed for Boeing's work. Virgin said it was entitled to monetary damages of at least "the difference between the $45.6 million paid by Virgin Galactic to Boeing and the substantially lower actual value of Boeing's performance." The case is The Boeing Company and Aurora Flight Sciences Corp v. Virgin Galactic LLC, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, No.

Richard Branson, the billionaire founder of Virgin Group, has turned his money and focus toward a very personal new project: DyslexicU, the first free online university for dyslexic thinkers. Branson said that while he wasn’t interested in school subjects such as geometry and applied mathematics, dyslexia helped him focus on his strengths. “If you’re a dyslexic person, you can go on and take one of the courses and learn more about how incredibly successful dyslexic people have used their dyslexic thinking to turbocharge their careers,” Branson’s co-founder Kate Griggs told NBC News. Geologic hydrogen — sometimes known as white, gold or natural hydrogen — refers to hydrogen gas that is found in its natural form beneath Earth's surface. Pete Johnson, CEO and co-founder of Koloma, told CNBC that geologic hydrogen is fundamentally an exploration and production business. A primary energy source, such as coal, oil, wind or solar, refers to a natural energy source that has not been altered or converted. It's within this context that momentum has been growing over the potential of geologic hydrogen. Ellis said that just a small percentage of geologic hydrogen recovery might well be enough to supply all the projected demand for 200 years.

A federal grand jury is set to begin hearing evidence this month in the scam to steal the Graceland estate from Elvis Presley’s family, sources say. It involved a company called Naussany Investments, which claimed that Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis’ only child, owed millions of dollars in unpaid loans before she died. To collect on that debt, Naussany Investments sought control of Graceland through a foreclosure sale of the historic mansion. The documents Naussany Investments filed turned out to be forged, and a judge tossed out the case. More than half a dozen links seemed to separately connect Holden with the foiled scam at Graceland, NBC News found.

Richard Branson's "most notable failure" taught him an important lesson: There's value in always seeing yourself as an underdog, the billionaire entrepreneur recently told TED's "Work Life with Adam Grant" podcast. He learned from one such experiment that "backfired horribly," he told Grant: Virgin Cola, a soda that Branson's Virgin Group launched in 1994. After some success in the U.K., the company decided to expand its presence to the U.S. and challenge Coca-Cola and Pepsi, Branson told NPR in 2017. Then, Virgin Cola began disappearing from store shelves, Branson told NPR. Virgin Cola quietly shuttered years later, when Branson realized the drink was only No.

"Do what you know" is common career advice, but not everyone agrees it's wise. Virgin Group co-founder and billionaire Richard Branson says it's the worst career advice he's ever received. In fact, Branson broke through by doing the opposite, he discussed on a recent episode of the Work Life with Adam Grant podcast. Branson — who has a $2.6 billion net worth, according to Forbes — built his career and fortune from the Virgin Group, a venture capital and holding company. While Branson sold the music label for nearly $1 billion in 1992, the Virgin Group now owns companies in sectors ranging from airlines and hotels to media and spaceflight.

CNN —Iranian dissident rapper Toomaj Salehi had his death sentence overturned by the Iranian Supreme Court this week in what his lawyers have deemed a victory for human rights in Iran. After being briefly released from prison in 2023, Salehi was re-arrested for “making false claims and spreading lies,” according to Iranian judiciary news agency Mizan. On Saturday, his lawyer Amir Raesian broke the news of the reversal in a post on X, saying that the Iranian Supreme Court had “avoided irreparable judicial error” and overturned Salehi’s death sentence this week. The Supreme Court found that the death sentence delivered to Salehi was excessive and failed to comply with Iranian law,” the group said in a statement Saturday. London-based human rights lawyer Caoilfhionn Gallagher who is the international counsel for the Salehi family said it was “not enough” that his life had been “spared” by the Iranian authorities.

Reached by phone, Lisa’s live-in partner Maria Tazbaz said she sold the Easter baskets at her hardware store. By 2009 Lisa was on supervised parole, but couldn’t stop committing crimes, according to her parole officer, who asked a judge to consider putting her back in prison. In a letter to the judge, the parole officer outlined Lisa’s infractions: She faked cancer to get sympathy from a court on a charge for bogus checks. After spending much of 2010 and 2011 imprisoned in Oklahoma, Lisa was released. At a hearing for the revocation of her release, the parole officer testified she had “noticed, and attempted to stop, a pattern by the defendant of defrauding her boyfriends.” A judge locked her back up.

Virgin Galactic founder Sir Richard Branson, far left, and CEO Michael Colglazier, far right, stand with the crew of the Galactic 07 mission. But Virgin Galactic needs a great suborbital spaceship. But it's a far cry from the forecast Virgin Galactic sold investors on – more than 3,000 "cumulative passengers flown" by 2023 – when it went public five years ago. But that leaves a hiatus before the first Delta spacecraft debuts, with the key target of a first commercial flight in 2026. As a reminder, human spacecraft development is often years delayed, and Virgin Galactic has in the past been no exception: Virgin Galactic was supposed to begin spaceflights in 2010, but didn't until 2018.

Richard Branson doesn't want to be defined by his net worth. Neither should you, according to leadership expert Rohan Verma. Anyone, billionaire or not, should try to make career choices that can foster long-term happiness, Verma says — rather than simply chasing the job that pays the most. One way to think about it: the Japanese concept of "ikigai," which is intended to help people find purpose in a busy and happy life. "Ikigai is a conflation of four different things: what you're good at, what you love doing, what the world really needs, and what you can be paid for," Verma explains.
