A worker is reflected in a wall of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) head office in central Sydney, Australia, March 1, 2016. REUTERS/David Gray/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSYDNEY, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Australia's central bank on Monday said tokenised money could help save billions of dollars in costs in domestic financial markets, as it studies whether and how to launch a central bank digital currency. Australia's government on Monday separately outlined proposals for regulating crypto and digital assets that will make platforms subject to existing Australian financial services laws and require platform operators to obtain an Australian Financial Services Licence. The RBA has been studying whether to issue a central bank digital currency (CBDC) of its own and if it would help facilitate atomic settlement in tokenised asset markets. A wholesale CBDC could also act as a complement to new forms of privately issued digital money, including tokenised bank deposits and asset-backed stablecoins.

Bitcoin miners are barreling toward the "halving" — a major market-making event that some fear will be a death knell to many in the industry. "We're taking a long-term bet on bitcoin and on the fact that bitcoin mining will survive and will bounce back even stronger." Texas has grown to dominate bitcoin mining partly because of support from local authorities and the operator of the Texas energy grid, ERCOT. Even during the bear market, Texas miners are building out, buying new sites and fresh fleets of hardware. The mining company was spun off from Chinese bitcoin mining giant Bitmain and went public via SPAC earlier this year.

This edition of Insider's work-advice column is about how managers can cope with imposter syndrome. Research suggests that people who feel imposter thoughts demonstrate superior interpersonal skills. For the first time in my career, I'm suffering from some major imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome, which is characterized by gnawing fears and self-doubt that persist despite your experience and accomplishments, is common. What seems to be happening is that people with imposter syndrome subconsciously compensate for their perceived lack of competence by trying to succeed interpersonally.
Australia's RBA finds unexpected industry interest in an eAUD

Interested entities ranged from large banks, financial market infrastructure providers and consultancies, to small digital asset firms and fintechs. The RBA intends to select a number of proposals to take forward into the pilot phase early next year. However, Jones cautioned that the actual adoption of a retail CBDC to replace cash would be revolutionary and come with costs and dangers that had yet to be addressed. Instead, it was possible household holdings of eAUD at the RBA would end up replacing deposits held by commercial banks, sapping their ability to lend. "Prior to crossing this Rubicon, a strong public interest case would first need to emerge," Jones concluded on adoption of a retail CBDC.

Snap's disastrous earnings is an indicator to some industry insiders that the digital ad market is collapsing. Snap's dismal showing in its recent earnings due to lost ad spend signified an ad market further collapsing in the face of a likely recession. And now, the ad industry is scrambling to figure out what to do in a worst-case economic scenario. "I think the digital ad market collapsed in September," one adtech exec told Insider, noting a precipitous drop that month in particular. One ad industry recruiter who is coming off of one of their busiest years in 2021 for running talent searches for ad agencies amid the Great Resignation said new opportunities have all but dried up, as many ad agencies have instituted a hiring freeze.
The XPO Logistics Inc. logo on a truck departing the company's distribution hub in Barcelona, Spain, on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Trucking company XPO Logistics on Monday said it expects to post third quarter revenue that would come in below analysts' expectations. For the truck brokerage segment that will become RXO, the company expects revenue to decrease 2% year over year and volume to increase 9%. Truck brokerage connects truckers with customers in the on-demand "spot market." The RXO spinoff follows a previous spinoff of XPO's contract logistics business into GXO , which began trading last year.
XPO Logistics Inc. named a new finance chief ahead of the planned spinoff of its freight brokerage business later this year, part of an ongoing effort to split the sprawling transportation company into smaller pieces. Carl Anderson will take over as chief financial officer on Nov. 8, Greenwich, Conn.-based XPO Logistics said Monday. XPO Logistics in 2021 spun off its supply-chain business GXO Logistics Inc., which provides services such as warehousing and e-commerce. XPO Logistics reported a total profit of $141 million during the quarter, down 10% from a year earlier. During his tenure as finance chief, Mr. Tulsyan played a key role in the spinoff of the GXO supply-chain business.

INDIANAPOLIS — A man who shot and wounded two southern Indiana judges outside an Indianapolis fast food restaurant in 2019 was convicted Wednesday on seven of eight felonies and one misdemeanor after a three-day trial. A jury convicted Brandon Kaiser of aggravated battery, multiple battery-related charges and carrying a handgun without a license. Clark County Circuit judges Brad Jacobs and Andrew Adams were shot during the early morning hours of May 1, 2019 in the parking lot of a downtown White Castle restaurant. The Indiana Commission of Judicial Qualifications filed disciplinary charges against the three judges involved. Jacobs and Bell were reinstated to the bench in December of that year after serving 30-day suspensions.
