Standing on the grand staircase of Lynda and Stewart Resnick's opulent Beverly Hills mansion at a party last fall — where Diane Keaton, Bob Iger and Brian Grazer were among the luminaries making small talk over crudités and Sazerac cocktails — the author Walter Isaacson took a moment to thank his hosts. Not only were the Resnicks giving the party to celebrate his new biography of Elon Musk, they had also been major supporters of his former professional home, the Aspen Institute, donating $36 million to the think tank over the years. Isaacson was not the only one in the room with reason to be grateful to them. Overall, the Resnicks — whose Wonderful Company business empire includes Pom Wonderful pomegranate juice, Wonderful Pistachios, Fiji Water, Halos mandarins and Teleflora, the flower-delivery service — have donated $1.9 billion of their estimated $13 billion fortune to academic institutions, climate change initiatives, cultural organizations and programs in California’s Central Valley. Their gifts have landed them on the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s annual list of the 50 biggest donors three times.

By Jonathan Allen(Reuters) - If federal courts give the green light, Alabama plans on Thursday to pioneer the first new method of judicial execution since lethal injections were introduced in 1982. "If this execution is successful then we're going to see nitrogen hypoxia take off across the country," said Rev. Smith is scheduled to be the first prisoner subjected to the method, which Alabama refers to as 'nitrogen hypoxia,' on Thursday evening at Alabama's Holman Correctional Facility. Alabama Solicitor General Edmund LaCour told federal judges last week that the state has since developed "the most painless and humane method of execution known to man." This is the first time he has had to sign a form acknowledging the risk that an execution method poses to others in the execution chamber.

Elon Musk filed new documents in Texas court asking a judge to restrict access to his custody battle. Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. Two years ago, Goldman promoted the largest managing director class in its history, naming 643 employees to the designation in 2021.

JAMES LEE WALL, 40, was strolling through downtown Manhattan in September when a blazer stopped him in his tracks. “I was walking by that Italian men’s store, Boglioli—they had a camel-colored cashmere blazer in the window,” said the real-estate broker. “I stood there for five minutes thinking, ‘Man, I need to get that blazer.’” Though he hasn’t yet taken the plunge, he’s still thinking about the jacket. Throwing on [a blazer] adds that extra touch.”It’s an extra others want, too, said New York personal stylist Turner Allen, who caters to tech hotshots. In 2022 Brooks Brothers clocked a 44% year-over-year jump in blazer sales, according to a brand spokesperson.

Claire Boucher, better known as Grimes, asked a Texas judge to throw out Elon Musk's custody case. The musical artist Grimes has asked a Texas judge to throw out Elon Musk 's child-custody lawsuit filed last month, saying the case belongs in California, not Austin. He splits his time between six companies — with his private jets sometimes making multiple trips between Texas and California within a week. The lawsuit isn't the first sign of conflict between Musk and Grimes.
