As companies across the US confront complex challenges that require overhauling strategies, reimagining business models, and adapting workforce dynamics, many are appointing chief transformation officers to drive these changes. Being a chief transformation officer, Jesuthasan said, is akin to "building the train while you're driving it down the tracks." With evolving workplace priorities, the Workforce Innovation board also predicted which new roles might emerge in the C-suite, including "chief transformation officer" and "chief experience officer." AdvertisementTim Paradis: We've seen new C-suite roles emerge in recent years, like chief AI officer and chief ethics officer. Then, while there is a "chief AI officer" role that's picking up, there is also a lot of focus on automation. Pittman: I think that a lot of these roles — whether it's chief diversity officer, chief risk officer, chief digital officer — are really about building new competencies that are not widely spread. Employers might not ask if you have a degree, but many still care, a labor market expert told BI. But opponents ignore both the history of so-called meritocracy, and the fact that DEI programs benefit business, Frazier and Chenault argue. But they said opponents have weaponized select examples of diversity programs that are not practiced widely to oppose DEI entirely. “Did the Fed even need to cut rates in September, let alone cut by 50bps (basis points)?” Seema Shah, chief global strategist at Principal Asset Management, wrote in a note on Friday. Second-guessing the Fed isn’t new, of course. Central bank officials themselves note the uncertainty inherent in their work, especially when the economy reaches inflection points. Even Fed officials don’t always agree with the central bank’s actions, such as Fed Governor Michelle Bowman, the lone dissenter to the Fed’s decision to cut rates by half a point in September. ‘This isn’t exact science’Fed officials aren’t shy about admitting that they don’t always have confidence in how the US economy will evolve.

During a virtual roundtable, we asked Business Insider's Workforce Innovation board to tell us how AI would transform companies over the next year. How will the most innovative companies be transformed by AI over the next 12 months? Last year, we had an AI challenge across the company, and a huge percentage of our employees participated. There are a lot of different points of view on what AI will and will not do and how quickly. And that the promise we think AI is going to deliver will probably take longer than we think to come to fruition.

Washington CNN —It’s a pivotal week for the US economy, with the Federal Reserve expected to cut interest rates for the first time since 2020. Fed officials and investors have long anticipated that borrowing costs would come down in 2024 — at some point — according to their economic forecasts. But nine months in, rate cuts still haven’t happened, drenching Wall Street’s parade and leaving US consumers squeezed by elevated interest rates. Here’s why the Fed didn’t cut soonerIt’s simple: The Fed didn’t cut interest rates sooner because it could have reignited inflation or left it stuck above the central bank’s target. Bond yields, which move in anticipation of the Fed’ decisions on rates, have come down over the past several weeks based on signs encouraging the Fed to cut rates, such as weaker-than-expected employment data and cooling inflation.

Boston Consulting Group estimates demand for data centers will rise 15%-20% every year through 2030, when they're expected to comprise 16% of total U.S. power consumption. Tench said Vantage's data centers typically have the capacity to use upward of 64 megawatts of power, or as much power as tens of thousands of homes.
