In a speech to Congress, also on Tuesday, with López Obrador sitting a few steps from her, the promises seemed more tangible. It is far less than the 2.6 million barrels per day López Obrador promised at the beginning of his term. Experts said Mexico would not be able to increase oil production using traditional methods, because its fields are getting tapped out. Mexico is almost out of oil,” said Adrian Fernandez, who holds a PhD in environmental science from Imperial College London and directs the Mexico Climate Initiative, a think tank. Before leaving office, López Obrador pushed through a constitutional reform that strongly favors the Federal Electricity Commission.

And while castles usually ooze luxury and extravagance, Bambuda is one of the town's more affordable hotels. A view of the Bambuda Castle. The locals told me that while it was once a private residence, it was sold and transformed into a budget hotel in the last decade. As they expanded across Panama, the pair targeted budget travelers. For example, Bambuda Castle offers a range of accommodations.

Eibhlis Gale-ColemanPunta Caracol Acqua Lodge is set over the ocean along the shores of Punta Caracol, a mangrove-lined coastline on the west side of the main Colón Island in Panama. Because of its remote location, everything — including guest transfers, staff switching shifts, and even laundry runs — relies on motor-powered fishing boats. I booked a shuttle service from Costa Rica to Bocas Town and took a short taxi ride from the town center to the port. From there, the resort sent a boat to pick me up. The distinctive mint-green and yellow exterior was rustic — a far cry from any soulless hotel chain I've stayed in.

Oil gains as market buffeted by supply worries

Oil wells are seen at an oil facility by the Highway 5 near Bakersfield in California, U.S. on Nov. 27, 2022. Oil prices extended gains on Wednesday as a larger than expected fall in U.S. crude inventories and escalating geopolitical tensions raised investor worries about tighter supplies. U.S. crude oil inventories fell by 2.3 million barrels last week, higher than the 1.5 million barrel drop forecast by analysts in a Reuters poll. Russia, among the top three global oil producers and one of the largest exporters of oil products, has been contending with Ukrainian attacks on oil refineries and has also attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure. The U.S. dollar also edged down against a basket of currencies on Wednesday, helping support demand for dollar-denominated commodities like oil.

The global personal fitness trainer market was worth about $41.8 billion in 2023, and market research firm Future Market Insights predicts it will soar to $65.5 billion by 2033. A growing body of research also suggests working out with a personal trainer has a variety of benefits. The two biggest benefits from hiring a personal trainer, though, whether you’re an exercise newbie or a pro, are accountability and motivation, said Mary Wing, a certified personal trainer and performance coach with the fitness app Future. There are trainers who specialize in training older people or those with medical issues, says certified personal trainer Allan Misner. In the end, though, hiring a personal trainer can be a safe and effective way to achieve a healthier life, which is the main goal.

The logo of Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) is pictured at the company's headquarters in Mexico City, Mexico July 26, 2023. In October, Pemex received 55.9 billion pesos ($3.2 billion) from the government to strengthen its financial position, accounts show. Separately, Pemex received 71.7 billion pesos over the quarter for debt amortizations. Instead of focusing so much on Pemex, Mexico could have made more of private-sector investment, boosting renewable electricity output and reducing fossil fuel reliance, he said. Pemex also reported a third-quarter net loss of 79.13 billion pesos, revenues of 462 billion pesos and a financial debt of $105.8 billion.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced he has picked Miguel Angel Maciel to be his next energy minister, less than a year before the end of his six-year government, he wrote in a Monday post on social media. Maciel will replace Rocio Nahle, who served as energy chief and chair of the board of state-owned oil company Pemex since the beginning of Lopez Obrador's term in late 2018. Maciel has previously served as deputy energy minister, and Lopez Obrador stressed in his post on X that the petroleum engineer by training is trusted "due to his honesty and proven convictions in favor of national sovereignty." Nahle formally left her job as minister before the president's most important energy infrastructure project, the Olmeca oil refinery in his home state Tabasco, has come online. Lopez Obrador tasked Nahle with overseeing the project, which is running behind schedule and over budget.

Mexico's inflation rate by the end of this year is seen slowing to 5.0%, and then to 4.0% by the end of 2024. Mexico's central bank raised rates 25 basis points to 11.25% Thursday, but hinted the hiking cycle could be nearing its end. Mexico is also primed to benefit from private investment fueled by "nearshoring," the trend of moving production to North America and away from Asia, the ministry said. Nearshoring could add up to 1.2 percentage points to GDP the ministry said, without specifying a time frame. In particular, the ministry anticipated a boost to foreign investment in manufacturing, and said the automotive industry was a "natural candidate" to take advantage of nearshoring.
The Olmeca oil refinery, being built next to the Dos Bocas port, is set to be Pemex's eighth when it comes on line. It is key to Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's plan to make the country self-sufficient in gasoline and diesel, ending longstanding heavy dependence on imports, mainly from U.S. refiners. By September 15, the day before Mexican Independence Day, it would process its full capacity of 340,000 bpd and yield 280,000 bpd of gasoline and diesel, Lopez Obrador said, posting on Twitter. The Olmeca refinery has been one of the leftist president's signature public works projects since he took office in late 2018. Pemex (PEMX.UL) produced 282,600 barrels per day (bpd) of gasoline in October, up 17% from September. Diesel output jumped 21% to 151,400 bpd, and production of fuel oil fell 2.5% to 272,000 bpd, according to company figures published late Monday. The state oil company reported an 8.7% increase in petroleum products imports, especially gasoline, which increased 17% in October to 475,000 bpd. Experts and critics argue the goal is unattainable considering the deteriorated state of Mexico's local refineries and delays in starting up its new Dos Bocas refinery. Pemex reported relatively stable crude production of 1.7 million bpd.
