Corporate America’s hottest CEO pick is a classic model — the Middle Aged White Guy. Just 52 businesses in the 2024 Fortune 500 ranking were run by women, holding flat from the year before. Obviously, White Guy CEO never went out of fashion — women have rarely represented more than 10% of Fortune 500 companies. But a rash of recent leadership shakeups illustrates the enduring power of the White Guy as a kind of capsule wardrobe for corporate leadership.

Disney has tapped James Gorman to replace Mark Parker as the company’s next chairman, effective in January, as the media giant lays the groundwork to name a successor for CEO Bob Iger in early 2026, the company said Monday. He will continue to lead that committee after he takes over as board chairman from Nike Executive Chairman Parker. According to the lawsuit, these universities bilked applicants from divorced or separated homes by including the financial backgrounds of noncustodial parents when determining financial aid packages. The universities engaged in “a concerted action” to require that an applicant’s noncustodial parents, meaning the parent a student does not primarily live with, provide their financial information to be eligible for nonfederal financial aid, the lawsuit states. The universities generated financial aid offers based on an applicant’s custodial and noncustodial parents’ financial statuses. The College Board’s push to include noncustodial parents’ financial information began in 2006, the lawsuit says, and never included consideration for whether that parent would contribute to a student’s education. “This lawsuit has no merit and NYU intends to vigorously defend itself and its financial aid policies and procedures,” NYU spokesperson John Beckman said in a statement.

In 2022, when Schultz was interim CEO, he attended a company event in Long Beach, California, to address and improve working conditions at Starbucks stores. According to the administrative law decision, he “had an angry expression on his face.” The NLRB decision upholds an administrative law judge’s decision in October 2023. In a statement, Starbucks said it disagrees with the board’s decision. Though Schultz stepped down in March 2023 after his third time serving as CEO, he remains tied to the company.
