After his final swing in a 6-3 victory over the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the World Series, he only had to trot. He swatted a 10th-inning walk-off grand slam on Friday night, a slight improvement on Gibson’s legendary walk-off in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty kept the Yankees off the board until Giancarlo Stanton hit a monstrous, two-run homer in the sixth. The season of “Fernandomania” coincided with the last time the Dodgers and Yankees met in the World Series. The lumber landed on the World Series logo.

And in that sky, directly above this beach volleyball stadium, loomed the Eiffel Tower. Of all 32 sports being played in these Olympics, none has a location that rivals beach volleyball. Beach volleyball’s Olympic history dates back to 1996 and a simple artificial beach stadium in Clayton County Park outside Atlanta. It’s easy to feel impossibly small in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. There are seven more sunsets over Eiffel Tower Stadium for beach volleyball.

BlackSky/Handout via REUTERS Acquire Licensing RightsKYIV, Sept 14 (Reuters) - A Ukrainian missile attack on the Sevastopol Shipyard in Russian-annexed Crimea this week caused heavy damage to a large Russian landing ship and submarine, commercial satellite imagery showed. Kyiv said on Wednesday the two vessels were likely beyond repair after the pre-dawn missile attack on the port city of Sevastopol. Russia's defence ministry confirmed the strike, but said the vessels would be fully repaired and return to service. "The Minsk Project 775 Ropucha-class landing ship and the Rostov-on-Don Kilo-class submarine vessels... sustained damage," the company wrote on the X social media platform late on Wednesday, publishing the images.

Massive fires burning in remote areas – like some of those currently burning in northwestern Quebec – are often too out of control to do anything about. Ed Jones/AFP/Getty Images Smoke from wildfires in Canada shrouds the view of the Statue of Liberty on Friday in New York. Jim Watson/AFP/Getty Images Smoke and haze is seen from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, June 27. Matt McClain/The Washington Post/Getty Images Smoke from Canadian wildfires obscures the visibility in Pittsburgh on June 8. Another issue is the increase in the wildfires are caused by climate change, and are simultaneously making climate change worse.

It’s said that during the aircraft’s 27 years of service, there were more qualified American astronauts than there were British Airways Concorde pilots. Concorde: When supersonic travel was a reality 02:32 - Source: CNNThe small pool of Concorde pilots also meant everyone knew everyone. It would take him back to the day he stood at Heathrow, watching the first commercial Concorde flight take off. Future of supersonic flightAlmost two decades since Concorde’s final flight, the allure of supersonic flight hasn’t waned, with companies such as Boom Supersonic plotting plans for Concorde’s successor.
Gun violence happens so often that if it hasn’t affected you directly, it can be easy to become jaded by the horrific details that emerge after a mass shooting. I’m fighting to ban assault weapons because no ordinary citizen needs a weapon that is powerful enough to liquify a person’s organs. Because we did it before with the Federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994. And the unfortunate reality is the network of mass shooting survivors is growing. You can help pass a federal assault weapons ban now by doing two things: calling your senators at 202-224-3121 to ask them to support a federal assault weapons ban and voting for gun-sense candidates who will vote yes to pass a federal assault weapons ban.
