The handful of Americans who have won $1 million checks from tech billionaire Elon Musk’s super PAC have a few things in common. He said he didn’t know the process the super PAC used to pick his name and didn’t ask. He said he believes Democrats are not ideologically predisposed to sign Musk’s petition in support of the First and Second Amendments. NBC News asked the super PAC to share the process Oct. 22 and did not receive a response. All 14 winners have either recorded videos for Musk’s super PAC, been photographed for the super PAC or both.

Former President Donald Trump on Saturday railed against fellow billionaire Mark Cuban, who has been vigorously campaigning for his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. "Mark Cuban is a Loser," Trump wrote in a Saturday Truth Social post. Trump's insults come several days after Cuban mocked the Republican presidential nominee's tariff proposals at a Harris campaign rally. This election cycle, Cuban has become a regular Harris campaign surrogate as the vice president works to frame herself as a pro-growth capitalist. Meanwhile, Trump has enlisted Elon Musk as his own mega-billionaire campaign surrogate, fueling another rivalry with Cuban.

Trump’s re-election campaign has excoriated the project, calling it “pure malicious defamation” and “garbage,” and sent the producers a cease-and-desist letter. Vanity Fair journalist Gabriel Sherman, who wrote the screenplay, draws a direct line between Cohn’s bare-knuckle tactics and Trump’s modern-day political persona. In one graphic scene, the dramatized Trump character sexually assaults his first wife, Ivana Trump (played by Maria Bakalova), after a bitter argument. In another notable sequence, Trump’s character goes under the knife for scalp reduction surgery and a liposuction procedure. “You might find some of these character questions you have about Trump answered,” Abbasi said.

Read previewEver since Kamala Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee, Pete Buttigieg has been dominating the TV interview circuit. "It's the fact that every time he comes out to say something, he says something totally different," the Democratic strategist said. It's not just TV hosts, Democrats, and social media users who love Buttigieg — voters do too. And now, he's reminding Americans on TV screens around the country what he cares most about: the future of the country. "Pete Buttigieg cares about America and he understands the stakes in this election," the Democratic strategist told BI.

CNN —With President Joe Biden’s support unleashing a flood of endorsements from many prominent Democrats across the country, Kamala Harris has emerged as the favorite to take his place as the party’s nominee for president. The campaign formally amended filings with the Federal Election Commission to rename its principal committee and declare Harris a candidate for president. Cooper previously waved off speculation that he might be on the shortlist for vice presidential nominees if Biden steps aside and Harris becomes the nominee. “Are you at least open to the possibility of being a running mate to Vice President Harris?,” Beshear was asked on MSNBC Monday morning. “I’m not going anywhere.”Whitmer, first elected governor in 2018, emerged as a prominent executive during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Over the past few years, many people have told me I should stop making Biden-is-old jokes because “it just helps Trump” — as if voters wouldn’t have noticed his age otherwise. As Joe Biden himself would say, “Here’s the deal”: What happened at the debate last week wasn’t a tragedy, it was a blessing in disguise. I called on Mr. Biden to step aside almost a year ago, warning that he would be forever known as “Ruth Bader Biden” if he didn’t. And far from being some kind of disaster for the Democratic Party, it plays right into what works best in 21-century American culture. And he didn’t have an endlessly long record to pick over.

In fact, for him at least, one is not about the other; Seinfeld openly disdains politics. Like Seinfeld, Carolla imagines parts of the 20th century as a better time. Women got more jobs and power (despite, Carolla writes, being “better at home with the kids than in the workplace”) and men became metrosexuals. The masculinity they defend is adamantly heterosexual, threatened not just by women but also by gay men and gender non-confirming people. In fact, the call for a return to 1950s-style masculinity has found a number of high-profile political supporters in recent years.

Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy announced last week he had been buying up shares in BuzzFeed. Which led to the obvious question: Why is Vivek Ramaswamy buying up shares in BuzzFeed? Related storiesHe's laid it out in a letter to BuzzFeed's board, but if you're in a hurry I can summarize it for you: Ramaswamy wants BuzzFeed to pull an Elon Musk. Another option would be for Ramaswamy to play this out a while longer and watch BuzzFeed shares shoot up based on his saber-rattling. Opinion: Alito’s second red flag

This is not the first time Alito has found himself in hot water over displaying a controversial flag on his property. The upside-down flag, a signal of distress, was adopted by Trump supporters who believed the false claim that the election had been stolen. (Alito said his wife had raised the upside-down flag in response to a disagreement with a neighbor. The discovery also comes at a time when the Supreme Court will be making a decision about Trump’s claims of sweeping presidential immunity, his get-out-of-jail-free card for the federal cases he faces. “The notion that the Supreme Court can be trusted to be an arbiter above partisan politics has suffered major blows in recent years.

Back in 2013, I got a call from Bill Maher. He was being hit with a lawsuit by Donald Trump and thought it would be “comedy gold” for my column. Maher offered to give $5 million to charity if he could see the birth certificate of Trump, who had offered $5 million to charity for records to verify the birthplace of President Barack Obama. “He’s not even a real person,” an exasperated Maher told Conan O’Brien about Trump at the time. I told Maher that it wasn’t worth writing about Trump and his silly lawsuits and risible presidential aspirations.

CNN —Bill Maher recently said on his show that the 2024 election was going to be fought over two issues: immigration and abortion. Each party has an advantage, the Democrats on abortion and the Republicans on immigration. Now, it’s abortion rights voters who are energized, fueled by states like Arizona that are putting in place draconian restrictions on abortion. With the margins small in many swing states, abortion could be the issue that brings out suburban women, who could tilt those states blue in November. Joe Biden needs to be caught trying to solve the immigration crisis.

Many Republicans plan to skip the House GOP retreat as they grumble about both the location and the idea of spending time with one another, with tensions still running high inside the party in the wake of their unprecedented speakership drama. Fewer than 100 Republicans have RSVP’d to attend the retreat, which is less than half of the entire conference, according to a GOP source familiar with the attendance sheet. GOP Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina, for example, is scheduled to appear on “Real Time with Bill Maher” later this week. In a remarkable split screen, firebrand GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida will be attending a rally in Texas on Thursday in support of Brandon Herrera, a far-right candidate who is challenging GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales. Among the most common email scams are phishing emails. Instead of sending out generic emails, the emails are addressed to an individual or a specific organization. Now, criminals anywhere in the world can use ChatGPT or FraudGPT to create convincing phishing and spear phishing emails. If I'm going to do 1,000 spear phishing emails or CEO fraud attacks, and I find one in 10 of them work, that could be millions of dollars," said Davies. It will take some time for companies to adjust, but for now, cybersecurity experts say generative AI is leading to a surge in very convincing financial scams.

Career changes can be hard, even for Bill Gates — who credits a simple, lifelong habit for his switch from a narrow-minded, decades-long focus on computers and software to international philanthropy. "I had a long period from about age 18 to 40 where I was very monomaniacal ... Microsoft was everything," Gates, 68, recently told comedian Trevor Noah on the "What Now? "I was lucky enough that as other people took over Microsoft, I got to go and read and learn about all the health challenges, why children die." With even more time to read, he researched ongoing global health crises and decided to make the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation his primary focus, he said. "Reading fuels a sense of curiosity about the world, which I think helped drive me forward in my career and in the work that I do now with my foundation," Gates told Time in 2017.

To the Editor:Re “Progressives Aren’t Liberal,” by Pamela Paul (column, Nov. 17):Ms. Paul bemoans the failure of labels to accurately describe what a person’s beliefs are, in this case liberals. Labels allow a labeler to define us without the heavy lifting of critical thinking that truly informs who and what we are. In the end, we should applaud the failure of labels and encourage a deeper understanding of one another. And in the New York market — the nation’s largest — Fox has lately beaten its left-leaning rival, MSNBC, by a few percentage points. In September, Fox was drawing 16 percent fewer viewers than MSNBC in New York. Fox News — with the largest audience in all of cable television in recent years — draws a sizable number of Democratic and liberal-leaning viewers. “My Jewish liberal friends will text me and they’ll say, ‘Oh, this is where you go in the afternoon?’ because they never watched Fox before,” she said.
