In recent years wildfires have regularly burned in and around Wrightwood, a picturesque mountain town 60 miles east of Los Angeles known for its 1930s cabins. In neighboring Orange County, firefighters used bulldozers, helicopters and planes to control a rapidly spreading blaze called the Airport Fire that started Monday and spread to about 3 square miles in only a few hours. Concialdi said the fire was burning away from homes in Orange County, but there are 36 recreational cabins in the area. Residents along the southern edge of Big Bear Lake were told to leave the area Tuesday night, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The company of ‘New York, New York’ Photo: Paul KolnikThe Broadway musical “New York, New York,” set in the heady days after the end of World War II, is an unabashedly rhapsodic love letter to the city. It embraces with a big bear hug—one that contemporary dwellers would probably recoil from, speaking literally—the image of New York as the fabled dream-chasing capital of the world, a notion immortalized in the title song. New York, New York St. James Theatre, 246 W. 44th St., New York $59-$279, 888-985-9421The show is very loosely based on the stylized 1977 Martin Scorsese movie of the same title. The looser the better. The movie is turgid and almost unwatchable today, primarily due to the repellent behavior of Robert De Niro ’s character—he’s basically a saxophone-playing Travis Bickle from “Taxi Driver,” minus the charm.

California, synonymous with its beaches and sun, is keeping winter a little longer. Ski resorts in the state are extending their seasons amid near-record snowfall from a series of powerful winter storms that have thrashed the Golden State in recent months. Mammoth Mountain, in the Sierra Nevada range, said it would be open until at least the end of July. Heavenly Mountain Resort near Lake Tahoe will close May 7, while Big Bear Mountain in the San Bernardino Mountains and Mountain High in Los Angeles County are among the resorts planning to stay open through April.
"We started panicking and started connecting with other folks who we know have short-term rentals," Sullivan told Insider. Given the sharp rise of short-term rentals there, some local lawmakers have recently called for amending the law. But short-term rentals are often essential to a healthy tourism economy, particularly in vacation destinations. Investors jumped in to capitalize on the boom, and the market soon became saturated with short-term rentals. There's one thing pretty much everyone can agree on: Short-term rentals are here to stay.
"We started panicking and started connecting with other folks who we know have short-term rentals," Sullivan told Insider. Rather than a collapse of the industry, the increasingly bifurcated state of the market — a bust for some, a boom for others — is a clear sign that we have hit a turning point in the long-running battle over short-term rentals. Given the sharp rise of short-term rentals there, some local lawmakers have recently called for amending the law. Investors jumped in to capitalize on the boom, and the market soon became saturated with short-term rentals. There's one thing pretty much everyone can agree on: Short-term rentals are here to stay.
The challenge: Attempt a surf, skate, and snowboard "trifecta" in the middle of a busy work dayOver the past few years, remote work has become a routine part of our lives. This is the case for the sales teams at Volcom, a global lifestyle apparel brand based in Costa Mesa, California. Two Volcom sales executives, Brent Lantz and David Jurusik (or BL and Nook, respectively), embrace this — whether it's taking a call on a ski slope or discussing inventory with retailers on the road. Dell Technologies and Intel teamed up with Volcom to see if they could improve and optimize their on-the-go sales efforts and work connectivity. The challenge: Attempt a southern California "trifecta" — surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding within a 12-hour period — all while completing a full day of work.

Vance, both Republicans, made remarks about Apple's situation that show how Musk could put Apple in a tough spot. It's just one of a vast number of apps on the App Store, and it isn't a huge moneymaker for Apple through in-app purchases. He also accused Apple of threatening to pull the Twitter app from the App Store . Over the past week, Twitter owner Elon Musk has been poking Apple , the big bear of Silicon Valley, which controls app distribution to every iPhone. But Apple would be much more likely to pull the Twitter app if it tries to cut Apple out of its platform fees.
