CNN —A German-Iranian national and longtime US resident has been executed in Iran after being convicted of terrorism offences, according to Iranian state media citing the country’s judiciary-affiliated Mizan news agency. Jamshid Sharmahd, 69, was executed Monday morning for “planning and orchestrating a series of terrorist acts,” state-run IRNA and Press TV reported. His execution sparked condemnation from the United States and Germany. Sharmahd’s daughter Gazelle has repeatedly said her father is innocent and that he faced a sham trial due to his political activism and criticism of the Islamic Republic. Abram Paley, the US Deputy Special Envoy, last year met with Sharmahd’s family to discuss his imprisonment and death sentence.

CNN —Armed assailants launched a deadly “terror” attack on Turkey’s state-run aerospace company near the capital Ankara on Wednesday, government officials said. At least five people were killed and 22 injured in the “terrorist attack” on the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) headquarters in the outskirts of Ankara, said Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. CNN —At least 22 people, mostly women and children, have been killed in an Israeli strike on a school compound Saturday, Palestinian officials said, with Israel saying it targeted Hamas fighters sheltering there. A spokesman for the Gaza Civil Defense, Mahmoud Basal, said the missile hit the Al-Zaytoun School, near Gaza City, where thousands were sheltering. CNN —The Israeli military says it targeted Hezbollah “weapons storage facilities” in multiple airstrikes across Lebanon on Saturday. Another of the strikes hit “empty shops” in the town of Sareen in Baalbek, reported the state-run Lebanese news agency NNA. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed carrying out strikes in the Beqaa and Baalbek areas, saying it had targeted Hezbollah weapons storage facilities. It said it had also struck Hezbollah weapons storage facilities in seven other areas of Lebanon, in the south. CNN —A manhunt is underway after three people were killed and four severely injured during a stabbing attack in the western German city of Solingen, police told CNN. The attacker is on the run and police are treating the incident as a terror attack, said a German police spokesperson. “This evening, all of us in Solingen are experiencing shock, horror, and great sadness,” The city’s mayor, Tim Kurzbach, wrote on Solingen’s Facebook page. According to the festival’s website, Friday was the start of the three-day “Festival of Diversity,” which would include music, food, performances, and family-friendly entertainment. CNN —Twenty-one people died after a school building collapsed in central Nigeria while students were sitting an exam in what local authorities called an “avoidable tragedy.”The two-story building collapsed in the city of Jos and saw a further 30 people hospitalized, according to Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). NEMA said that students were amongst those who died in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, without providing an exact number. Around 120 people were trapped when the building collapsed, according to Plateau State government. The governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, said the building collapsed as students were sitting an exam. Building collapses are common in Nigeria due to lax construction standards and poor quality materials.

CNN —Israel says it targeted Hamas’ top military official, Mohammed Deif, in an airstrike in southern Gaza, with local authorities saying at least 71 Palestinians were killed in multiple strikes in the same area. Deif – the leader of Hamas’ Qassam Brigades – was targeted Saturday in an airstrike based on precise intelligence in Al-Mawasi, a camp west of the city of Khan Younis, an Israeli security official told CNN. The Israeli military said it in the process of verifying whether Deif was killed in the strike. Deif was targeted alongside the head of the Khan Younis brigade, Rafe Salama, the security official added. CNN —UK police have arrested a 34-year-old man as part of a search to identify those responsible for leaving two suitcases of human remains at a famous bridge in western England earlier this week. At this stage police are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, the statement added. Saturday’s arrest was hailed as a “significant development” in the police’s investigation by deputy assistant commissioner Andy Valentine. Police believe the human remains found in the London apartment are connected to those found in Bristol. CNN —A statue of Anne Frank in Amsterdam was vandalized with “Gaza” graffiti, drawing criticism from the city’s mayor. “Officers went to the statue, saw the graffiti and started an investigation,” the spokesperson said. Anne Frank’s diary is often many young people’s first introduction to the horrors of the Holocaust. In 1944, the famous diarist and seven other Jewish people hiding in the Amsterdam secret annex were detained. They had hid for nearly two years in a secret annex above a canal-side warehouse in Amsterdam, before they were deported and Anne died in the Bergen Belsen camp at age 15.

CNN —A manhunt is underway in north London for a man suspected of being armed with a crossbow, after three women were killed Tuesday evening. Police said they were searching for a 26-year-old man, named as Kyle Clifford, in connection with the deaths, who could be in north London or the neighboring county of Hertfordshire. Police were called to a house in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on Tuesday evening, where they found three seriously injured women. All the women, who are believed to be related, later died from their injuries, according to police. British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has said she is being kept “fully updated” by police on the ongoing manhunt.

CNN —Andrew Tate, a self-proclaimed misogynist influencer, can leave Romania but must remain within the European Union as he awaits trial on charges of human trafficking and rape, a Romanian court ruled Friday. The ruling by a court in the Romanian capital of Bucharest means Tate, his brother Tristan and two further defendants may travel freely within the EU until their trial, according to CNN affiliate and Romanian outlet Antena 3. A spokesperson for the Tate brothers called the ruling a “significant victory and a major step forward” in their ongoing case. In April, a Bucharest court ruled that the case against the brothers on charges of human trafficking and rape could proceed to trial. Romanian prosecutors alleged the Tate brothers seduced victims, by falsely claiming they wanted a relationship or marriage with them.

CNN —German police on Sunday shot a man who threatened officers with a pickaxe and an incendiary device in Hamburg, authorities said, hours before the city was set to host its first game for the Euro 2024 soccer tournament. The suspect had threatened officers in Hamburg’s famous St. Pauli district and was shot in the leg, according to Hamburg police. Germany is hosting hundreds of thousands of foreign fans at the the month-tournament, which began on Friday. Interior Minister Minister Nancy Faeser said on Thursday that authorities were on alert for Islamist-inspired attacks and violence associated with hooliganism, Reuters reported. She said authorities had the “Islamist scene firmly in their sights” but not specific threats had been identified.
