I predicted last weekend that the Democrats will find a way to jettison Joe Biden; that likelihood seems to fluctuate daily or even hourly, but for now my prediction stands. Because it is so obvious to me, I had long assumed the Democratic Party would consider it equally obvious. But it is no longer clear to me that the party’s elected officials actually share that assumption. But to the extent that goal conflicts with other, more mundane imperatives, more than a few Democrats seem to view beating Trump as a secondary objective. I wrote about this in the context of Biden’s “save democracy, vote Democrat” rhetoric before the 2022 midterms, but clearly the point merits new elaboration.

A federal judge on Friday ordered the liquidation of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones′ personal assets and was still deciding on his company's separate bankruptcy case. Judge Christopher Lopez approved converting Jones' proposed personal bankruptcy reorganization to a liquidation. He was still set to rule on whether Jones' company, Austin, Texas-based Free Speech Systems, also should be liquidated. It wasn't immediately clear what will happen to Free Speech Systems, which is Infowars' parent company. If Free Speech Systems' case is dismissed, the company could return to the same position it was in after the $1.5 billion was awarded in the lawsuits.

But she did make me think Alito is even farther to the religious right than I thought. Survivors recounted giving birth to children fathered by Boko Haram fighters, often when they were still minors themselves. They described being humiliated by soldiers who called them “wives of Boko Haram” and accused them of being behind killings carried out by the terror group. One of them, named NV in the report, said she fled Boko Haram in 2021 when she was around 20. She had been forcibly married to a Boko Haram fighter while in captivity but remarried while living in the IDP for an extended period. Many survivors of Boko Haram told Amnesty that they witnessed Boko Haram killing their relatives.

Hopes for multiple rate cuts from the Federal Reserve this year have dimmed after recent inflation readings showed signs of stickiness.
