Japan's low interest rates made its currency a cheap option to borrow and fund other trades in the US and worldwide. So there's $6 trillion sitting in money market funds that is being held hostage to politics, he added. Advertisement"We've had these episodes of market volatility in the past, and the only path was in and out of equities," Quinlan said. Remember, as interest rates come down, you lock in two-, five-, or 10-year yields. Those money market funds are going to come down as the interest rates come down."

Opinion | The Christian Case Against Trump

Days later, at the Republican National Convention, the evangelist Franklin Graham endorsed Mr. Trump from the stage, saying that “God spared his life.”But the idea of Mr. Trump as chosen by God has infuriated those evangelicals who believe that he stands in direct opposition to their faith. Their existence highlights an often-overlooked fact about the American religious landscape: Evangelicals are not a monolith. The troubling ascendancy of white Christian nationalism has galvanized evangelicals for whom following Jesus demands speaking truth to power, as well as building the kingdom of heaven on earth in actionable ways. Although this broader evangelical movement is often referred to as the evangelical left, it adheres to no party. “This isn’t about being a Democrat or a Republican,” Jim Wallis, an evangelical Christian pastor, author and justice activist, told me.

In a matter of just 24 hours this weekend, Donald J. Trump traversed two very different worlds, neither one of them his own. The next afternoon, he was in Nashville, yukking it up with thousands of crypto-evangelists at a Bitcoin conference. The two groups could hardly be less alike, and Mr. Trump — neither a pious man, nor technologically savvy one — made for an unlikely champion at each. And yet, taken together, the two appearances provided a case study in how he code switches — from Christianity to crypto — as he campaigns. And his attempts to win over a crowd that is not inherently his own can be acutely awkward.

“Kamala Harris will appoint hundreds of extreme far left judges to forcibly impose crazy San Francisco liberal values on Americans nationwide,” Mr. Trump told the crowd. Mr. Biden’s move upended a presidential race that Mr. Trump and his team had been anticipating for years. But Mr. Trump seemed to make a more considered effort on Friday to define Ms. Harris as further to Mr. Biden’s left. Mr. Trump also repeated his false, widely debunked claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election, which he has maintained that he won. James Singer, a Harris campaign spokesman, criticized Mr. Trump in a statement for insulting Jewish Americans and lying about the 2020 election.

In the closing minutes of his speech to a gathering of religious conservatives on Friday night, former President Donald J. Trump told Christians that if they voted him into office in November, they would never need to vote again. “Christians, get out and vote. Four more years, it’ll be fixed, it’ll be fine, you won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians.”Mr. Trump, who never made a particular display of religious observance before entering politics, continued: “I love you, Christians. I love you, you got to get out and vote. Earlier in his remarks, he lamented that conservative Christians do not vote in large numbers, a complaint he had made repeatedly on the trail.

Former President Donald J. Trump sharpened his attacks against Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday, accusing her of wanting to impose left-wing values on the nation, painting her as overly liberal on immigration and abortion and calling her a “bum” in a speech to a gathering of religious conservatives. Speaking at the Believers Summit, a faith-focused conference hosted by the conservative advocacy group Turning Point Action in West Palm Beach, Fla., Mr. Trump invoked the specter of San Francisco — a liberal city long used as shorthand by conservatives eager to denigrate Democrats — as he argued that Ms. Harris would, if elected, impose far-left values on the country. “Kamala Harris will appoint hundreds of extreme far left judges to forcibly impose crazy San Francisco liberal values on Americans nationwide,” Mr. Trump told the crowd. Making his second campaign speech since Ms. Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee this week, Mr. Trump’s barbs seemed more focused than earlier in the week, when he unleashed a flurry of wide-ranging attacks.

One after another, for four days, the testimonies for Donald J. Trump poured out. “God spared his life,” Franklin Graham, the evangelist, proclaimed. “Divine intervention” saved his father from the assassin’s bullet, Eric Trump said. Ben Carson, the former secretary of housing and urban development, said that when he saw his friend “escape death by mere inches” his thoughts “immediately turned to the book of Isaiah, which says, ‘No weapon formed against you shall prosper.’”And Mr. Trump himself said at the Republican National Convention, “I felt very safe because I had God on my side.”As many in the audience nodded and cried in the darkness, the message was unmistakable. Even as his speech was criticized by many for its divisive tone and length, for these believers, Mr. Trump appears supernaturally anointed, an embodiment of God’s blessing.

I predicted last weekend that the Democrats will find a way to jettison Joe Biden; that likelihood seems to fluctuate daily or even hourly, but for now my prediction stands. Because it is so obvious to me, I had long assumed the Democratic Party would consider it equally obvious. But it is no longer clear to me that the party’s elected officials actually share that assumption. But to the extent that goal conflicts with other, more mundane imperatives, more than a few Democrats seem to view beating Trump as a secondary objective. I wrote about this in the context of Biden’s “save democracy, vote Democrat” rhetoric before the 2022 midterms, but clearly the point merits new elaboration.

In this gilded echo chamber, Mr. Trump enjoys unwavering devotion — and collects the staggering price of admission. During the 2014-15 season — the last before Mr. Trump officially entered politics — The Times counted 52 fund-raiser events at Mar-a-Lago. More than two dozen midterm candidates had already held fund-raisers on the property when Mr. Trump made that statement. But that changed when Letitia James, the New York attorney general, sued Mr. Trump for exaggerating the value of his properties. And, unlike when Mr. Trump was president, “he was there a lot,” Mr. Rustmann said.

Established beer companies like Heineken , Constellation Brands -owned Corona, Anheuser-Busch's Budweiser and even Diageo's Guinness have also hopped on the trend, introducing non-alcoholic beer offerings of their own.

We think so," Melius analyst Ben Reitzes said in a research report on Monday. We think infrastructure software may be harder to disrupt," the Melius analyst said. Apple, AMD and Intel should benefit from looming product cycles and an eventual easing of cloud capital expenditures spending, according to Reitzes. For Apple, the analyst believes consumers will favor its iPhone 16 out in September given its "Apple Intelligence" AI capabilities. By contrast, the S & P 500 has already reached Jefferies' bull case of 5,400, the strategist noted. The right catalyst For investors, the bull case for small caps that prevailed when the year began, still holds. More immediately, second-quarter earnings may prove a positive catalyst for small caps since expectations are so low, according to Jefferies' DeSanctis. On a trailing 12-month basis, the S & P 500 is trading at a multiple of 25 times earnings. Ultimately, however, many investors say that a rotation into small caps is coming, even if it hasn't happened yet.

He’s going to be a killer rebounder, monster screener and will consistently establish his position even against some of the stronger NBA players. I’m done doubting Edey, even as an NBA player. As an enormous ballhandler with serious touch and incredible vision as a passer, Topić is clearly an NBA player, even if it doesn’t all translate. Shannon is an elite athlete, but the NBA game requires more nuance, especially if he continues to be an inconsistent shooter. However, I also think he’s more than just a floor spacer on offense in spot-up situations and potentially as an off-ball scorer.

Judge Christopher Lopez approved converting Jones' proposed personal bankruptcy reorganization to a liquidation. He was still set to rule on whether Jones' company, Austin, Texas-based Free Speech Systems, also should be liquidated. CNN —As a journalist and professor who teaches media ethics, I have long been against the kind of undercover secret recording activist Lauren Windsor made of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and his wife, as well as Chief Justice John Roberts. Join us on Twitter and FacebookWhat Windsor discovered does not tell me as much as ProPublica and The New York Times have about the secrecy and shocking lack of ethics in the Supreme Court. But she did make me think Alito is even farther to the religious right than I thought. But while the approach was similar, Maryland has a law against secret recordings; two-person consent is required. But she broke no law in taking us behind closed doors and a little further into the mind of Alito.

Her parents took her and her sister to nondenominational megachurches that adhered to a lot of Baptist and Pentecostal ideals, she said. As a kid, she loved the way every service felt “like a concert,” filled with music and light, and she made loads of friends through church. “So I didn’t want to associate with that kind of evangelicalism.”Draut is representative of an emerging trend: young women leaving church “in unprecedented numbers,” as Daniel Cox and Kelsey Eyre Hammond wrote in April for Cox’s newsletter, American Storylines. A new survey reveals that the pattern has now reversed.”While over the past half-century, Americans of all ages, genders and backgrounds have moved away from organized religion, as I wrote in a series on religious nones — atheists, agnostics and nothing-in-particulars — young women are now disaffiliating from organized religion in greater percentages than young men. And women pushing back on the beliefs and practices of several faiths, particularly different Christian traditions, is something I have been reading about more and more.

Hopes for multiple rate cuts from the Federal Reserve this year have dimmed after recent inflation readings showed signs of stickiness.
