A Georgia grand jury indicted a teenage boy and his father on dozens of charges, including murder, in connection with a mass shooting last month that killed four people at Apalachee High School, officials said Thursday. His father, Colin Gray, was indicted on 29 counts, including second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to children, involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct, according to records from the Barrow County District Attorney's Office. CNN —A phased reopening of Apalachee High School, the scene of this year’s deadliest school shooting, is scheduled to begin September 24. The man whose teen son is accused of killing four people at a Georgia high school asked a judge on Wednesday for protection from fellow inmates due to the “incalculable number of threats” he faces behind bars. Gray needs to be separated from other inmates being held by the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, his lawyers Jimmy Berry and Brian Hobbs wrote. Last week's shooting has impacted almost everyone in the city of Winder and greater Barrow County, defense lawyers said. “In fact, so many lives in the community of Barrow County have been touched in unfathomable ways, it would be reckless to assume there are NO inmates, either currently or in the near future, being housed in the Barrow County Detention, who wish to harm the Defendant." WINDER, Ga. — Many students in Georgia’s Barrow County headed back to class Tuesday, six days after a shooting killed two teachers and two students at the school district’s Apalachee High School northeast of Atlanta. No return date has been set for the 1,900 students at that high school, but the 13,000 students in Barrow County’s other schools did return, including at the middle school and elementary school that border the Apalachee campus in Winder. Danny Rampey, a Georgia Republican who won state office in November, was arrested Thursday. Investigators say there are videos of him taking prescription narcotics from the assisted-living complex he runs. Rampey is a manager at the family-owned Magnolia Estates of Winder Assisted Living Center. Investigators served search warrants on Thursday at Magnolia Estates and Rampey's home, Smith said.
