There's a massive wealth transfer underway. "It has started and it's only going to accelerate," said Liz Koehler, head of advisor engagement for BlackRock's wealth advisory business. And yet, some millennials and Generation Z may not be inheriting as much as they think. Recent reports show a growing disconnect between how much the next generation expects to receive in the "great wealth transfer" and how much their aging parents plan on leaving them. However, 55% of baby boomers who plan to leave behind an inheritance said they will pass on less than $250,000, Alliant found.

Biden aides say they do not expect the president or his campaign to take on the age question more directly. Messina compared the special counsel's report to former FBI Director James Comey's October 2016 announcement that he was further investigating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's handling of classified emails. Beyond celebrating the release of the special counsel's embarrassing descriptions of Biden, Trump won a new trove of delegates in Nevada's Thursday caucuses, where he ran unopposed. Barry Goodman, a Biden fundraiser from Michigan, said he’s had some donors “take a wait and see approach” about supporting Biden, even before the special counsel’s announcement.

Nonetheless, it was notable at Sunday's rally in New Hampshire to see Trump praise DeSantis without calling him “DeSantimonious” or “DeSanctus,” putting an end to perhaps the most bitter rivalry of Republicans' 2024 campaign. “It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance,” DeSantis said, offering matter-of-fact analysis through a forced smile without adding plaudits for Trump. It's not easy.”Brenda Moneypenny, a 64-year-old from Alton, waited in the cold for two hours to see Trump on Sunday night. Trump endorsed DeSantis, then a congressman, in a competitive 2018 GOP primary for Florida governor. “I endorsed him, and he became a rocket ship in 24 hours,” Trump said, claiming that DeSantis had begged for his endorsement.

A couple of days after Aishat Bolomope’s wedding on Dec. 31, the newlywed realized that she might be spending her honeymoon on the choppy seas of internet outrage. A dispute between a wedding party and a coffee shop in Indianapolis had turned into a referendum on wedding etiquette and cultural norms, all of it warped by the distorting lens of social media. “The more I read, the more it broke my heart,” said Ms. Bolomope, a 28-year-old engineer. At the center of the maelstrom are the mother-daughter duo that runs the coffee shop, Mansion Society, and a young Nigerian couple (Ms. Bolomope and her husband, Opeyemi Akanni, 27) who wanted to marry there. On Dec. 5, Ms. Bolomope went there to speak with the building’s manager, Isaac Barrow, about holding a small wedding ceremony in the coffee shop.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley pushed across ice-cold Iowa Saturday to find voters open to an alternative to former President Donald Trump with just two days before the state's caucuses open the Republican primary calendar. DeSantis in particular is under great pressure in Iowa given his campaign's heavy bet on a strong finish in the caucuses. Courtney Raines, a special education teacher, came to hear Haley on Saturday morning and said she would try to see DeSantis later in the day. But another is that our universe is a computer simulation, with someone (perhaps an advanced alien species) fine-tuning the conditions. In a virtual reality, this limit would correspond to the speed limit of the processor, or the processing power limit. Similarly, virtual reality needs an observer or programmer for things to happen. The Gorgon liquefied natural gas (LNG) and carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility, operated by Chevron Corp., on Barrow Island, Australia, on Monday, July 24, 2023. The oil and gas industry needs to let go of the "illusion" that carbon capture technology is a solution to climate change and invest more in clean energy, the head of the International Energy Agency said Thursday. Just 1% of global investment in clean energy has come from oil and gas companies, according to Birol. The industry needs to face the "uncomfortable truth" that a successful clean energy transition will require scaling back oil and gas operations, not expanding them, the IEA chief wrote. One of the major pitfalls in the energy transition is excessive reliance on carbon capture, according to the report.

Chevron/Handout via REUTERS Acquire Licensing RightsSYDNEY, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Australia's Offshore Alliance union said on Sunday that workers had begun a second 24-hour strike at Chevron's liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants in Western Australia. "Another 24hr stoppage has been applied across all 3 facilities with 15% of Downstream members enacting rolling stoppages/bans after midday today," an Offshore Alliance representative, who declined to be named, said. Offshore Alliance on Saturday said it intended to extend industrial action for a further two weeks to mid-October. Prior to this weekend there have been more limited work stoppages at the remote LNG facilities after pay and condition talks between the union alliance and Chevron broke down this month. Chevron has asked Australia's industrial tribunal to intervene in the dispute and cancel the strikes.

The full strike comes after workers on Thursday escalated what had been six days of limited action. The company's Gorgon and Wheatstone Australian LNG facilities account for over 5% of global supply. "Chevron’s 3 West Coast facilities are descending into chaos as Offshore Alliance members lock all 3 Chevron facilities down for the next 24-hours," the union said in a Facebook post. An union representative, who declined to be identified, said the strike would run until 8am WST on Sunday (0000 GMT). Unions have said they will vary strikes according to "industrial strategy", targeting LNG exports in particular.

"We've certainly seen Australia's reputation being affected as some existing buyers expressed interest in diversifying their suppliers for long-term supply," said Ryhana Rasidi, LNG analyst at analytics firm Kpler. "Australia is the closest gas supplier we can get. By far, Australia, U.S. and Qatar are the three pillars in LNG supply chain. As well as its political stability, its proximity to Asia might be Australia's saving grace, industry analysts say. "Ties are very strong between North Asia and Australia as a legacy supplier, so many participants are keen to continue the relationship," said Kaushal Ramesh, LNG analyst at Rystad Energy.

The Gorgon liquefied natural gas (LNG) and carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility, operated by Chevron Corp., on Barrow Island, Australia, on Monday, July 24, 2023. Workers at Chevron's two liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in Australia plan to escalate industrial action from Thursday to anything from a total strike to hours-long work stoppages, their union said, increasing the risk of disrupted output from facilities accounting for over 5% of global supply. Workers at the Gorgon and Wheatstone facilities have been stopping work briefly for the past six days, after talks with Chevron over wages and working conditions broke down. The unions had said they would ratchet the pressure on the company from Thursday, possibly by completely stopping work. "We are strategically assessing the protected industrial action we need to take every 12 hours and will continue to escalate at times which align with our industrial strategy."

How to Save for a House
  + stars: | 2023-08-09 | by ( Michele Lerner | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +10 min
By Michele LernerThe need to save looms large in the home buying process. 5 strategies to save for a houseZillow estimates that it would currently take the typical household saving 5% of their income close to nine years to save a 10% down payment on a typical house. For example, if you’re aiming for $50,000 down on a $500,000 home in three years, you’ll need to save nearly $1,400 a month. That means the fastest way to save is often to cut costs on the place you live. However, he says you should at least save the minimum to earn any 401(k) matching contributions your employer offers and have a plan to increase your contributions after you buy a house.
