For some who’ve run afoul of Trump, the election results have sparked fresh worries that he may enter office looking for retribution. During the campaign, Trump has made different statements about whether he might target people who’ve upset him. Rep. Jim Jordan, a staunch Trump ally in Congress, said he doesn’t expect any of the prosecutors to face reprisals over Trump investigations. One former Trump White House official who has publicly spoken against Trump described feeling “scared” and declined to let their name be used. Now Fanone says he is hunkering down in his Virginia mountain-area home for fear that Trump could weaponize the police.

Designer Zac Posen — now creative director at Gap Inc., at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in March 2024. Danny Moloshok/ReutersSince 2014, the Gap brand has nearly halved its presence in North America, going from 968 stores in the market to 472 as of February. It makes up about 20% of overall Gap Inc. revenue, while Old Navy accounts for more than half. Before Gap, Posen was on track for a similar trajectory to Mizrahi’s. They started by redefining the positioning of each brand: Gap as a pop culture brand.

Gen Z workers are redefining office dress codes with their fall fashion trends. As for "Brat Summer," Rose compared it to the pink craze sparked by "Barbie" summer in 2023, which she said faded away by September last year. The office encourages employees to wear what they want, and Butler takes full advantage by expressing her street style.

Retail credit card interest rates reach record high

Here’s one way to think about these kinds of high-rate burdens:Say you sign up for a retailer’s card the day you make a $1,000 purchase. Or, consider that the interest you’ll pay in that same scenario will wipe out the $200 you “saved” after just nine months of making minimum required payments. The lowest rate on a retail card that the study found was 10%, on the Amazon Secured Card. “There are narrow circumstances in which retail cards can work for you. For a loyal shopper who pays in full and avoids interest, that’s a compelling value proposition,” he said.

Read previewIn recent days, Jeff Walz — the conservative older brother of the vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz — has become something of a fascination on the right. "We've just become a third world banana republic," Jeff Walz wrote that day. That generated speculation on the right that Walz's brother was prepared to reveal damning information about the Minnesota governor. As an example, he said that his younger brother would sometimes "throw up" on his siblings during road trips because of car sickness. Tim Walz's brother, Jeff Walz, says his Facebook comment declaring he's “100% opposed to all” of Gov.

Gap raised its full-year profit outlook on Thursday after seeing better-than-expected results at its largest brand, Old Navy. The apparel company's fiscal second quarter results were released earlier than planned after the company "inadvertently" posted them to its website and then removed them, a Gap spokesperson told CNBC. Gap posted earnings of $206 million, or 54 cents per share, compared with $117 million, or 32 cents per share, a year earlier. The company's second-quarter results didn't blow away expectations, but are solid improvements from where the company was a year ago. Its gross margin came in better than forecast at 42.6%, ahead of the 40.8% that analysts had expected, according to StreetAccount.

After reporting yet another strong earnings, the stock surged 24% on May 29th. Watch the video above to how CEO Fran Horowitz changed the business and defeated competitors like Gap, Banana Republic, American Eagle Outfitters and Urban Outfitters.

If it's any solace, the company was not really for Wall Street, either; its stock has been languishing over the past decade or so. Investors are eating it up: Abercrombie's stock a year ago, your returns would be better than that of almost any other stock, including the Wall Street darling Nvidia. "Can you and I think of another apparel retailer who literally reinvented themselves and then went to the moon with sales and earnings? When its longtime CEO exited the company at the end of 2014, its sales had declined for 11 consecutive quarters. Don Bacon of Nebraska framed the internal debate over how to handle Greene in familial terms: “You can only do so much. Bargain retailers like Walmart and Costco have benefitted, as shown by the retailing industry’s recent slew of first-quarter earnings releases. Sales at its stores open at least a year increased 3.8% in the quarter from the same time last year. Which means that Americans are still spending, but selectively, and that “value shopping” means different things to different people. “A sizable segment of them are focused on value, however, that doesn’t directly correlate to a low price. Shoppers are willing to spend if they see value in an on-trend, well-made dress from Abercrombie – or a healthy salad from Sweetgreen.”

Four days after presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump was convicted on 34 counts in his hush money trial in New York, President Joe Biden’s son Hunter will be called to answer for federal gun charges in Wilmington, Delaware. But a CBS/YouGov poll released Sunday showed that Americans believe 57% to 43% that the Manhattan jury reached the right verdict. His inflammatory remarks did not reflect the fact that his refusal to accept his 2020 election loss and his demagoguery are far more reflective of developing-world banana republics than a fair jury trial. Hunter Biden is entitled to the same presumption of innocence and a trial by a jury of his peers that Trump was. “I’d rather be on President Biden’s side of that contrast than on the extreme MAGA Republican side,” he said.

CNN —Donald Trump’s media allies are demanding retribution in the wake of his conviction. Following weeks of attacks targeting the historic hush money case against the former president, prominent right-wing media figures immediately flooded the public discourse Thursday with extreme and disturbing rhetoric after Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts. The toxic commentary is also enflaming desires of retribution held by Trump supporters, with popular right-wing media figures openly declaring their hope that the GOP candidate to nakedly seek revenge against his critics, should he emerge victorious in November and return to the Oval Office. Some of the right’s most popular talking heads are openly calling for the weaponization of government to seek retribution against Trump’s political opponents. But as the legal walls actually begin to close in on Trump, the commentary in right-wing media is getting angrier, more menacing, and taking a markedly darker tone.

Take Gap and Foot Locker — two unlikely winners that posted results on Thursday. Under CEO Mary Dillon, Foot Locker has worked to change its stores, where it does more than 80% of its sales. It has tried to create not only a better shopping experience for consumers but also a better place for its critical brand partners. Instead of two walls of shoes with competing brands mixed together, Foot Locker is changing its fleet so the brands have their own unique displays. With refreshed stores and better product displays, consumers are converting more, too, and paying full price — even Foot Locker's lower-income shopper.

Extraordinary Circumstances, Ordinary Due Process

When former President Donald J. Trump was convicted on all charges at his criminal trial in Manhattan this week, it unleashed a torrent of outrage from the right savaging New York’s legal system as better befitting a banana republic. The jury, it was argued, was full of liberals. And the entire endeavor of bringing nearly three dozen felony counts against Mr. Trump as he was campaigning for the White House, it was said, was little more than an exercise in raw political power ginned up by President Biden. At each turn in the proceeding, Mr. Trump had the chance, like any other criminal defendant, to represent his interests — and his lawyers often availed themselves of the opportunity to the fullest extent of the law. And the process is far from over: The former president has vowed to file an appeal, meaning he will have another chance or two to vindicate himself.

One of my ironclad rules of journalism is this: When you see an elephant flying, don’t laugh, don’t doubt, don’t sneer — take notes. Something very new and important is happening and we need to understand it. Last week, I saw an elephant fly: The Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer — an authentic, lifelong supporter of Israel — gave a speech calling on Israelis to hold an election as soon as possible in order to dump Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right cabinet. And it produced predictable responses from the Jewish right (Schumer is a traitor), from Netanyahu (Israel is “not a banana republic”) and from cynics (Schumer’s just cozying up to the Democratic left). All predictable responses, and all wrong responses.
