The country's economy is slowing down, and some shoppers are rethinking their luxury purchases. AdvertisementChina, with its sheer population size and once-meteoric economic growth, has been heralded as a reliable cash cow of luxury brands for decades. But the golden days of luxury shopping in China seem to be fading for many luxury brands — though there are exceptions. In 2021, the Asia region, excluding Japan, was responsible for 35% of LVMH's total revenue. It's a similar story at other luxury brands.

China's luxury market could face its worst quarter in four years, amid aggressive stimulus measures. AdvertisementLuxury brand investors are bracing to see if China's aggressive stimulus measures could be enough to pull its faltering luxury market out of the woods. While Beijing's recent moves to inject liquidity and lower interest rates have sparked some hope in pulling Chinese shoppers out of their spending slump, experts are skeptical of an immediate revival of China's luxury market. Rihanna’s fluffy Jacquemus bathrobe

At the UK launch of her latest beauty endeavor, Fenty Hair, the global megastar posed for photos outside Selfridges, London’s historic department store, not in satin, silk or sequins — but a fluffy bathrobe worn off-the-shoulder. The cream-colored fuzzy gown was designed by Jacquemus and styled by Jaheel Weaver with gold point-toe pumps and long crystal earrings. The bathrobe went from cosy staple to red carpet appropriate. Ora even kept the gag going when she changed into a shorter bathrobe for her live performance. Andreas Rentz/Getty ImagesMore recently, Isabelle Huppert has been making the case for bathrobe-style textiles to receive the red carpet treatment.

A major vacancy in the fashion world has been filled. On Thursday, Lanvin, the oldest French couture house in continual existence, named Peter Copping its new artistic director, an appointment that indicates a potential return to pure designers after a period in which the buzz was focused on content creators. (The announcement of his appointment at Lanvin came the day after Balenciaga’s latest couture show, attended by Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts, among others.) In a world of fashion micro-trends, that may be the biggest trend of all. This was especially true this season, as the shows of the five big heritage French brands — Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Dior and Balenciaga — served as de facto calling cards for the Paris Olympics, which is being touted as the most “fashion” Olympics ever.
