I don't think I'm in a minority that want to figure it out. The latest poll I saw was over 70% of the country – people in the country don't like the direction of the country. And so this was really, really tough. I'm going to worry about my job and my salary, and I don't think I'm going to participate. I'm really, really for that.

CLEVELAND — Fresh off a comfortable re-election victory in 2018, Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, considered running for president on a populist message aimed at the many working-class Midwest voters who had fled the Democratic Party in favor of Donald Trump. He spoke of a “post-Senate mission” to reorient Democrats as the “party of workers” in Middle America. “But I lost in large part because the national reputation of the Democratic Party is that we are sort of a lighter version of a corporation — a corporate party. And that’s one of the reasons that working-class voters have been willing to look away from the Democratic Party. But as opportunities arise in streaming, Sony is trying to transition from being a legacy consumer electronics company to an original content and entertainment company. In addition to Sony Interactive Entertainment, which makes the PlayStation, the behemoth Sony Group also includes Sony Pictures, which produces films like the Spider-Man series, and Sony Music, which includes Columbia Records. Robert Lawson, the chief communications officer for Sony Group, said in a statement that since 2018 when the company acquired EMI publishing, making Sony Music the world’s largest publisher of music, Sony has invested approximately 1.5 trillion yen into content IP across various entertainment businesses. Sony has also been involved with music since the 1960s through a joint venture with CBS that became Sony Music Entertainment in 1991. Richard A. As President Joe Biden makes a final push to confirm judicial nominees before his term in office ends, he is on track to have appointed more federal judges of color than any president before him. If Cheeks is approved, Biden will have appointed 63 Black federal judges, the most of a presidency of any length, according to the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. Both Obama and Bill Clinton each appointed 62 Black judges over the course of their two terms. Senate Democrats vowed to confirm as many Biden nominees as possible before Trump takes office in January and Republicans take control of the Senate. They’ve confirmed dozens since Election Day, but these circuit nominees are in limbo amid some opposition from Democrats as well as GOP senators.

Any shifts in the nation’s complex health care system, however, will not come easily, nor quickly, experts say. Policyholders rebelled because they felt they couldn’t access the care they needed, said Larry Levitt, executive vice president for health policy at KFF, a nonprofit health policy research group. “If you think health care costs are rough now, imagine them without constraints,” said Rodney Whitlock, vice president at McDermott+, a health care consulting group, and a former health policy adviser on the Senate Finance Committee under Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa. Health insurers, however, do at times backtrack when faced with intense blowback. However, there is now more bipartisan appetite on Capitol Hill to enact reforms, said Wendell Potter, a former Cigna executive and vocal critic of the health care industry.

This is what 4 of Trump’s cabinet picks think of the agencies they would lead. If confirmed, Ms. Gabbard would oversee more than a dozen spy agencies and have access to highly sensitive intelligence. by firing its top officials, closing its headquarters in Washington and going after Mr. Trump’s rivals. Majorities overall express at least some confidence in Trump across seven different issue areas and presidential actions tested in the poll. On other measures with data from 2016, confidence in Trump is largely about the same. Independents’ confidence has also faded, with only 18% expressing a lot of confidence in Trump on appointments, down from 26% in 2016. Independents split 50-50 on Trump’s handling of the transition now, in 2016, they divided 44% approve to 43% disapprove, with 13% unsure. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., and Angus King, I-Maine, cut a bipartisan deal to give Dreamers legal status while giving Trump money for his border wall, Trump’s White House successfully fought to kill the deal because it didn’t also curtail family-based immigration. Cornyn noted that any such bipartisan deal would take a backseat to border security and enforcement, which Republicans are making plans to provide funding for in a big party-line bill early next year. “Last term, President-elect Trump walked away from four different bipartisan compromises with Democrats to solve the DACA crisis. Last year, Trump successfully fought to sink a bipartisan deal to toughen border security as he campaigned on the issue. Back in the late 1880s, when unqualified political appointees were wasting taxpayer dollars, there was a move to professionalize government workers in a merit-based bureaucracy. The political “spoils” system, which the bureaucracy replaced, was demonized for its cronyism, inefficiency and graft. His charge to then-Vice President Al Gore was to streamline government through a National Performance Review, or NPR. There are some major differences, but then, as now, the plan was to take a holistic look at government and recommend changes to improve how taxpayer dollars are spent, including by culling the federal workforce, cutting regulations and more. Reagan’s Grace Commission: In 1982, President Ronald Reagan’s commission began its quest to get rid of hundreds of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.

While Elon Musk was not in attendance, he was the most-talked-about person there. Here's what business leaders and politicians had to say about the richest person on Earth. Several masters of the universe convened on Wednesday, and they had one name on their lips: Elon Musk. At the annual New York Times DealBook Summit, the world's richest man was a topic of conversation among his fellow billionaires, CEOs, and political elite. "It would be profoundly un-American to use political power, to the degree that Elon has it, to hurt your competitors and advantage your own businesses," Altman said.

The result is that even the EPA’s alarming estimates of cancer risk vastly underestimate — by as much as fourfold — the chances of formaldehyde causing cancer. But four former government scientists with experience doing statistical analyses of health harms told ProPublica that the myeloid leukemia risk calculation was sound. The agency’s sprawling assessment shows that, among scores of individual air pollutants, formaldehyde poses the greatest cancer risk — by far. As the EPA admits, its cancer risk calculation fails to reflect the chances of developing myeloid leukemia. Nationwide, that’s the average lifetime cancer risk from air pollution; formaldehyde accounts for most of it.

Other judges have reversed retirement plans after electionsA handful of judges in recent years have also reversed retirement plans when they have not been able to secure a preferred successor, including US District Judge Karen Caldwell, a judge who sits in McConnell’s home state. Cogburn and Marbley are also not the first judges to back off retirement plans after an election. As McConnell himself highlighted, a district judge did the same about-face after President George W. Bush’s reelection in 2004, and another changed his retirement plans when Obama won in 2008. CNN’s messages seeking comment from the two judges submitted with the judges’ courts were not returned. But, Wheeler said that McConnell “may be having the effect he wants” if the two appellate judges are “wavering” about whether to keep to their retirement plans.
