Evans pointed to signs of the economy slowing down, including what he called the "deteriorating" U.S. labor market. The Fed funds futures market suggests that investors are expecting at least three rate cuts by the end of the year, according to the CME FedWatch Tool. "A few rate cuts are not going to prevent a recession. Average recession is 10 months… It takes something like a year before fed cuts actually start to give a boost to the economy," he said. "The market believes that the fed fund rate at the end of next year will be 3%.

Now that ChatGPT unleashed a firestorm of interest in artificial intelligence investing, it may be time to urge some calm for investors. AI YTD mountain AI software provider C3.ai has seen its stock more than doubled as investors look to hop on the artificial intelligence trend. Here's the bear case for artificial intelligence. That's about seven times more than the cost to run a typical Google search, which Nowak estimated to be $0.003, or not even half of one cent. Separately, the lack of proper citation from generative AI could mean future lawsuits for AI companies.
Emerging market stocks are off to a strong start in 2023, even as concerns remain for investors. The iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (EEM) tumbled more than 22% in 2022, and more than 5% the previous year. "One of the primary attractions for emerging markets has been compelling valuations," said LPL Financial's Quincy Krosby. Not all emerging markets are equal Even as emerging markets are broadly outperforming, some countries are expected to perform better than others. The iShares MSCI South Korea ETF (EWY) and the iShares MSCI Chile ETF (ECH) are up more than 10% and nearly 1%, respectively.
Stocks in Chile are also outperforming the broader emerging markets. The iShares MSCI Emerging Market ETF (EEM) is down more than 28% for the year. Apart from the iShares MSCI Chile ETF, which helps investors gain exposure to the total addressable market, Chile makes up just a small part of other funds. The country comprises just 0.2% of the Morningstar global markets index, for example, and only about 0.6% of its emerging markets index. For macro investors, Chile is one of the interesting countries in the emerging market universe to deploy, according to BCA Research's Budaghyan.
