Salt Bae's restaurant in London said it cuts heating during peak hours. AdvertisementThe Nusr-Et Steakhouse in London said it cuts heating during peak hours to save money despite posting a profit, The Guardian reported. The group said in its accounts that to improve energy efficiency, its London steakhouse had turned "off central heating after closing or during peak hours when heating demand is lower," The Guardian reported. D.Ream International, the parent company of the Nusr-Et group, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. Despite the financial success of Gökçe's London steakhouse, his brand has taken a hit in recent years.

Farrer is better known as the Timepiece Gentleman, the flashiest online dealer in the $75 billion luxury watch trade. All he needed was the right name for his luxury watch business — something distinctive, something memorable. In his mind, he pictured what the ultimate luxury watch dealer would look like. To launch his career as the Timepiece Gentleman, Farrer boned up on the jargon of horology, from escape wheels and spring barrels to flinques and guilloches. Despite the staggering size of the luxury watch trade, nobody had thought to market its glamour and mystique.

Tanks have big guns, but medium-caliber cannons on other armored vehicles can be just as deadly. AdvertisementAdvertisementWhile tanks and their big guns have been getting the lion's share of attention in Ukraine, another weapon is proving equally deadly. Medium-caliber cannon — the 20-mm to 40-mm cannon found on infantry fighting vehicles, air-defense vehicles, and other platforms around the world — have been wreaking damage against infantry and other targets. Personnel load the gun of a BMP-2 amphibious infantry fighting vehicle during an arms exhibition Russia in September 2013. The effectiveness of medium-caliber cannons suggest that as armored vehicles evolve, those guns will remain part of their armament.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea says it plans to expel a U.S. soldier who crossed into the country in July. Other Americans have entered North Korea over the years, including a few U.S. soldiers. Five months later, North Korea announced it was expelling Lowrance who had entered the country illegally through China. While North Korea officially guarantees freedom of religion, analysts and defectors describe the country as strictly anti-religious. In 2009, American missionary Robert Park walked into North Korea with a Bible in his hand to draw attention to North Korea’s human rights abuses.

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's BAE Systems, Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Italy's Leonardo have agreed the next steps to deliver the concept phase of a next-generation combat aircraft, BAE Systems said on Tuesday. The three nations agreed in December 2022 to collaborate to build an advanced front-line fighter to enter service around the middle of the next decade. The new Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) agreement will support discussions to set out working arrangements and capability requirements for the aircraft, BAE said. The three nations will update on the project's progress at London's DSEI international arms fair this week, BAE said. Britain's defence ministry had committed 2 billion pounds to the project, formerly known as Tempest, before Japan and Italy joined.

Trade visitors walk past an advertisement for BAE Systems at Farnborough International Airshow in Farnborough, Britain, July 17, 2018. As the UK's biggest defence contractor, BAE has manufactured much of the equipment that Britain and other governments have provided to Ukraine as it fends off Russia's invasion. Britain is a key defence supplier for Ukraine and in May became the first country to start supplying Kyiv with long-range cruise missiles. BAE, which has benefited from increased defence spending as a result of the conflict, is already providing training and repair services to Ukraine's armed forces. Western defence companies have been weighing opportunities to make weapons in Ukraine against the possible security risks, Reuters reported in June.

I tried out a private jet simulator at a BAE Systems location in England. I tested its latest head-up display (HUD) technology, which is designed to make flying easier. I visited a BAE Systems base to try out its latest private jet simulator and experience what it's like to fly celebrities or the superrich around the world. My visit also gave me the opportunity to use one of BAE's most powerful tools — its head-up display (HUD). According to Charles, BAE is working on proposals for airlines, private jet operators, and prospective military clients to use the equipment.
As the markets continue to sour, and a recession looms, everyone's wondering when PE firms will begin scooping up assets. High on Bae's wishlist are "all things digital," he said, with one giant caveat: profitability. There are plenty of companies doing fascinating things in the digital space, but many have yet to reach profitability (*cough* fintechs *cough*). Goldman Sachs is going dumpster diving for crypto companies. Chaos in the crypto markets is creating investing and acquisition opportunities for the bank, according to Matthew McDermott, Goldman's head of digital assets.
KKR's co-CEO said on Tuesday that the firm is staying away from unprofitable companies. The private-equity behemoth KKR still has an appetite to invest in tech companies. KKR oversaw $496 billion as of September 30 as one of the largest managers of alternative assets such as private equity, private credit, and real-estate. While it used to be far more heavily weighted toward private equity, KKR's fundraising has increasingly shifted toward other assets like private credit, liquid credit, and real estate, Bae said. Private credit has been a particular focus for alternative money managers like KKR, Blackstone, and Carlyle amid rising rates and big banks' retreats from some lending, Insider previously reported.
Diners applauded as staff physically removed Animal Rebellion activists from the Nusr-Et Steakhouse. Animal Rebellion said it targeted the restaurant because it symbolized a "broken system." Eight protesters from Animal Rebellion entered the restaurant and sat at empty tables holding mock menus outlining their demands, the Evening Standard reported. The London branch targeted by Animal Rebellion serves gold-plated steaks costing up to £1,450 (almost $1,800). Police removed a number of protesters following the peaceful action and Animal Rebellion said in a tweet that arrests were made.
