Student-loan company Navient reached a settlement with the Labor Department over hiring discrimination allegations. Impacted job applicants will be notified they are eligible to receive back pay from the settlement. The Labor Department announced on Monday that it reached a settlement with student-loan company Navient to resolve allegations of hiring discrimination at its Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Texas locations. Navient exited the federal student-loan servicing industry in 2021 and continues to service privately-held student loans.

It was August 2014 when Davis’s Taney Dragons Little League team, out of Center City Philadelphia, won the Pennsylvania state championship and advanced to the Mid-Atlantic regional championship. Mo’ne Mania took off from there and didn’t stop even when Taney came up one game short of playing for the U.S. championship. The Sports Illustrated cover, with the words “Mo’ne Remember Her Name,” followed. Jimmy Fallon bet her a Philly cheesesteak she couldn’t strike him out in a Wiffle ball at-bat; Fallon whiffed and had to pay up. Davis, who is believed to be the only African American girl to compete in the Little League World Series, couldn’t go anywhere in Williamsport, Pa., without getting mobbed for photos and autographs.

At least four U.S. Navy sailors assigned to the same facility in Virginia died by suicide in the last few weeks, including one as recently as Saturday, military officials and family members said. It is the latest cluster of Navy suicides this year to spark concerns of a fleetwide mental health crisis. The 22-year-old U.S. Navy sailor died by suicide on Nov. 5. Caserta’s parents, Arestivo and military mental health experts said both are critical reforms needed to reduce suicides in the services. Nearly 17 out of every 100,000 Navy sailors died by suicide in 2021, compared to members of the Army, who had the highest rate, at about 36 per 100,000, Pentagon statistics show.
