At least 1,017 out LGBTQ candidates ran for election this year, a 1.1% increase compared with 2020, according to the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, a political organization that tracks and supports LGBTQ candidates for elected office. The LGBTQ+ Victory Fund endorsed and tracked 477 of the LGBTQ candidates who made it to the general election. As of Friday afternoon, about three-quarters of those races had been called, with LGBTQ candidates having a success rate of approximately 80%. LGBTQ candidates won elections to at least 37 state legislatures this year, according to the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, and several were historic firsts. “Having LGBTQ+ candidates in the halls of power will be paramount in helping to protect and uphold pro-equality values,” Meloy said.

A robot that has spent months inside the ruins of a nuclear reactor at Japan's tsunami-hit Fukushima Daiichi plant delivered a tiny sample of melted nuclear fuel on Thursday, in what plant officials said was a step toward beginning the cleanup of hundreds of tons of melted fuel debris. Employees of Tokyo Electric Power Company load a transportation box containing fuel debris from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. A device to remove debris from a reactor at the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant. The sample return marks the first time the melted fuel is retrieved out of the containment vessel. An estimated 880 tons of fatally radioactive melted fuel remains in them.

DETROIT – President-elect Donald Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to send the U.S. electric vehicle industry into a period of uncertainty. Republicans, led by the former president, have largely condemned EVs, claiming they are being forced upon consumers. Several people said they would expect Trump to target federal consumer credits that currently offer up to $7,500 for the purchase of an EV rather than target industrial production credits for companies. "It has some really good things in it that I think Republicans and Democrats will like." Many of the investments into EV production under the IRA having been taking place in Republican states such as Ohio, South Carolina and Georgia.
