Businesswoman and philanthropist Michele Kang just made a historic donation to women’s soccer. Kang, owner of the professional soccer team Washington Spirit, has pledged $30 million to the girls and women’s programs of U.S. Soccer, the organization announced on Tuesday. It’s the largest donation ever made to the soccer body by a woman, as well as to girls and women’s soccer. “Michele Kang’s gift will transform soccer for women and girls in the United States,” said Cindy Parlow Cone, president of the U.S. Soccer. She also owns Olympique Lyonnais, a women soccer team that plays in France, and London City Lionesses, in England.

Indians have become the biggest group of international students in the U.S., surpassing Chinese students this year for the first time in 15 years. New data released by the State Department in conjunction with the Institute of International Education shows that there are now 331,602 Indian international students in the U.S. (a 23% growth from last academic year), compared with 277,398 Chinese international students (a 4.2% decline). South Korea, Canada and Taiwan follow distantly as the next most common countries of origin for international students, with numbers all well under 50,000. Long the most populous at U.S. colleges and universities, Chinese international students have been falling in number every year since the pandemic. Chinese international students typically come with different priorities, Martel and Khanna said.

For “Interior Chinatown” star Jimmy O. After Republican President-elect Donald Trump’s dramatic performance with Latino voters, a coalition of Democratic-leaning Latino groups is grappling with the shift and trying to reconcile it with the policies they say many Hispanics support. The recall last week of two Bay Area officials who both championed progressive crime policies reflects long-held frustrations around a previous increase in violence targeting the Asian American community, experts say. The vote is indicative of Asian Americans’ rightward shift toward tougher crime policies like much of the state, analysts say. From March 2020 to December 2021, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across the country reported nearly 11,000 hate incidents, including verbal and physical abuse, being coughed at or spat on, and facing discrimination in the workplace. “And a lot of people say, ‘Oh, we’ve moved on from that era.’ I don’t think Asian Americans have,” said James Zarsadiaz, author of “Resisting Change in Suburbia,” whose research focuses on Asian American conservatism. The NBC News Exit Poll of early and Election Day voters indicated that 54% of Asian American voters chose Harris, while 39% voted for Trump.
