Accepting the reality that everyone dies eventually is an important step toward appreciating the life you have left to live. Arthur's advice: Stand in front of a mirror, look into your eyes and repeat to yourself, "I'm going to die." But the mindset shift can have many beneficial effects: Embracing mortality leads people to be more compassionate, mindful and driven to achieve their goals in life, Santos said. Arthur has spoken to hundreds of individuals about their final stages of life. "Grounding in my mortality means that at some point I won't have access to all these senses anymore," Arthur said.

“This discovery is important because it shows that after the extinction of the dinosaurs, grapes really started to spread across the world.”Much like the soft tissues of animals, actual fruits don’t preserve well in the fossil record. How ancient forests changedWhen the dinosaurs went extinct, their absence changed the entire structure of forests, the team hypothesized. “In the fossil record, we start to see more plants that use vines to climb up trees, like grapes, around this time,” Herrera said. Meanwhile, as a diverse set of birds and mammals began to populate Earth after the disappearance of the dinosaurs, they likely also helped spread grape seeds. Several fossils are related to modern grapes and others are distant relatives or grapes native to the Western Hemisphere.

India then returned to lay bare Pakistan's bowling frailties and romped home with nearly 20 overs to spare in the lop-sided blockbuster. "I just think we were a little bit timid tonight with our overall performance," Arthur told reporters after the match. "Credit to India, I thought they bowled really well, but I just thought our performance was just a little bit timid." "I did think we could probably have taken on the Indian spinners just a little bit more...But again, they were building and building nicely. "I think we've got to realise that there are two ways to always skin a cat.

Six years later, certain that he was on the right path as an artist, he held his first solo exhibition. He soon moved to the state capital, Salvador, where he studied printmaking at the Escola de Belas Artes da Bahia. After a stint as director of the Museu de Arte da Bahia in the early 1980s, Araújo headed to New York, where he taught courses in graphic arts and sculpture at City College. When Araújo liked an artist, he made it his mission to buy every piece of theirs he could find. But while Araújo had been winning praise for supporting certain artists, he was criticized for not including others.

Goldman CEO David Solomon is famously anti-remote work, and has been pushing RTO for over a year. Certain managers have responded by reemphasizing the company's policy that all employees work from the office five days a week. Though he reluctantly yielded on the issue for a while after facing pushback from his top advisors, he made his disdain for remote work public. "This is not ideal for us, and it's not a new normal," Solomon later said at a conference in February 2021 regarding remote work, Bloomberg reported. AdvertisementAdvertisementAs of last October, 65% of the company's workers had already returned to the office full time, according to Solomon.

Goldman Sachs is ramping up efforts to make staff return to the office five days a week. "We have continued to encourage employees to work in the office five days a week." Speaking about the return to office, CEO Eric Yuan told employees earlier this month that relying on video calls prevented employees from building trust and limited their innovation. The mandate aims to help workers "foster healthy relationships and strong collaboration," the company told workers in an email. Businesses urging workers to return say that in-person working cultivates a more open company culture and creates more opportunities for collaboration.

Mamet’s title came back to me while I was reading Patti Hartigan’s biography of another essential American playwright, August Wilson. Wilson, who died in 2005, spent so much time lingering in diners that “Writing in Restaurants” is a plausible alternative subtitle for Hartigan’s “August Wilson: A Life.”Wilson was a large, bearded man, often in tweeds and a pageboy cap. He’d sit in the back with a cup of coffee and an overflowing ashtray. As his fame grew, he’d find a place in each city where his plays were staged. It was his daily slice of experimental theater.

Investors may want to reduce international exposure right now and stick with the home court. "One of the highest predicting factors for [the] future performance of international stocks versus U.S stocks is what the U.S dollar does," Arthur told CNBC's "ETF Edge" this week. "From 2011 to 2022, the dollar was in a straight bull market, so you were gonna lose in international equities no matter what you did." That's a perfect setup where we're going to be cutting rates before the rest of the world. That's where the catalysts will have to be to see value come back, to see international come back [and] to see emerging come back."

French police have warned about an Irish gang defrauding property owners by posing as builders. The gang offers to pave areas with tar at a far lower price than normal but the work is substandard. They actually belong to the Rathkeale Rovers, a criminal clan named after a town in Ireland. Some members of the Rathkeale Rovers were now living in France, authorities believe, acting as a "base" for the scammers, per Le Parisien. The French interior minister didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider, made outside normal working hours.
But that's futile, experts say, because the AI of today can't feel empathy, let alone love. We've spent years trying to get AI to love us back. Experts told Insider that it's futile to expect the AIs that exist right now to love us back. During a simulation in October 2020, OpenAI's GPT-3 chatbot told a person asking for psychiatric help to kill themselves. Halpern, the UC Berkeley professor, told Insider AI-based relationships are perilous also because the entity can be used as a money-making tool.
REUTERS/Shelby Tauber//File PhotoJan 12 (Reuters) - Shareholders filed a lawsuit against Southwest Airlines Co (LUV.N) on Thursday, accusing the carrier of fraudulently concealing problems that led last month to an operational meltdown and more than 15,000 flight cancellations. Flight operations at Dallas-based Southwest buckled shortly before Christmas as a fierce winter storm swept across the United States. The carrier largely restored normal operations by Dec. 30, several days after other airlines had recovered. In an interview on Thursday, Jordan said Southwest was looking at all operations to avoid a repeat of the meltdown. The case is Teroganesian v Southwest Airlines Co, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas, No.
Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan took responsibility for the recent holiday chaos, saying this " just can't happen again." Shareholders filed a class action lawsuit on Thursday against Southwest over the flight disruptions. "I have put everything on the table here because it just can't happen again," Jordan told Reuters. Southwest has engaged consultancy Oliver Wyman to investigate the operational failures and has set up a new committee to review its operations, Jordan told Reuters. New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli last Friday demanded to know how the carrier plans to prevent another operational meltdown.

The nuclear fusion breakthrough heralded on Tuesday was a historic event, culminating decades of research. At the same time, fusion power will not be contributing electricity to any power grid for at least a decade, according to most industry watchers. "We got out 3.15 megajoules, we put in 2.05 megajoules in the laser," said Mark Herrmann, a program director at Lawrence Livermore, on Tuesday. All of that energy went into the laser fusion reaction that showed net gain of about 1.1 megajoules — enough energy to boil a teakettle maybe two or three times. "This is a science achievement, not a practical one," Omar A. Hurricane, a chief scientist at Lawrence Livermore, told CNBC.
Fusion is the way that the sun makes power, but recreating a useful fusion reaction here on earth has eluded scientists for decades. The National Ignition Facility target chamber at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is where scientists shoot lasers and watch and measure what happens when those lasers collide on a fuel source. Reaching ignition means the fusion experiment produced more energy from fusion than the laser energy that used to drive the reaction. "For the first time on Earth, scientists have confirmed a fusion energy experiment released more power than it takes to initiate, proving the physical basis for fusion energy. But it's proven extremely challenging to sustain a fusion reaction here on earth, and scientists have been trying for decades.

Nov 10 (Reuters) - Belgium coach Roberto Martinez has included injured striker Romelu Lukaku and playmaker Eden Hazard in his 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar, saying he will give the former "every second" to regain his fitness for the tournament. "He (Lukaku) is not completely fit medically, that is clear, but the last three days has been very positive. Or Vincent Kompany's in 2018 (ahead of the World Cup). However, he is a talismanic figure for Belgium and Martinez has set aside concerns with his match fitness and form. "I am looking for Eden to come as captain of the squad and show what an incredible player we have.
