PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Gunmen opened fire on passenger vehicles in a tribal area in northwestern Pakistan on Thursday, killing at least 38 people and wounding 29, the chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, said. Russia has supplied North Korea with antiaircraft missiles in return for the deployment of its troops to fight in Russia’s war against Ukraine, South Korea’s national security adviser said on Friday.In recent weeks, North Korea has sent an estimated 11,000 troops, some of whom have joined Russian forces in their fight to retake territories occupied by Ukraine in Russia’s Kursk region, according to South Korean and United States officials. CNN —Russia’s use of a nuclear-capable ballistic missile on Thursday is the latest escalation in the Ukraine war. The use of what Vladimir Putin said was a ballistic missile with multiple warheads in offensive combat is a clear departure from decades of the Cold War doctrine of deterrence. Ballistic missiles with multiple warheads, known as “multiple independently targeted reentry vehicles,” or MIRVs, have never been used to strike an enemy, experts say. CNN —The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and a senior Hamas official, accusing them of war crimes during and after the October 7 attacks on Israel last year. While ICC warrants don’t guarantee arrests, they could significantly restrict Netanyahu’s ability to travel to ICC member states. The prime minister said at the time that “trust between me and the minister of defense has cracked.” Katz, who served as foreign minister until then, became defense minister. After an arrest warrant has been issued, the ICC sends requests for cooperation to member states. SentinelOne researchers traced the front companies to a larger set of organizations based in China. One American entrepreneur told CNN that, according to the FBI, his company had unwittingly sent tens of thousands of dollars to the North Korean government. It’s not the first time that researchers have traced North Korean IT worker operations to northeast China. CNN reported in April on a North Korean computer server that contained illustrations that appeared to have been produced for US animation studios. A Dallas anesthesiologist was sentenced to 190 years in federal prison in a case where he was convicted of injecting drugs into IV bags, leading to at least one death. He was sentenced in federal court Wednesday to a total of 2,280 months, which the judge ordered to be served consecutively. Doctors began to suspect an issue with the IV bags in August 2022, after a 18-year-old patient’s condition became critical during a routine sinus surgery, prosecutors said. Video presented as evidence also showed Ortiz “repeatedly retrieving IV bags from the warming bin and replacing them” shortly before the bags were taken into surgery, prosecutors said. Doctors testified at the trial, noting that the medical emergencies occurred shortly after new IV bags were hung during the procedures.

A homeless Florida man was arrested Wednesday and charged with plotting to bomb the New York Stock Exchange to force a "reboot" or "reset" of the U.S. government, according to a criminal complaint. Yener told agents at the time that he was creating “rockets” with very “volatile” chemical mixtures that would explode if they were mixed incorrectly, the complaint says. Undercover FBI agents later made contact with Yener and convinced him they wanted to help him carry out an attack, it says. “There is one place that would be hella easy...the stock exchange, that would be a great hit," Yener said, according to the complaint. So that’s perfect.”Days later, he told a group of undercover FBI agents that he wanted to bomb the stock exchange the week before Thanksgiving.

WASHINGTON — A Donald Trump supporter who was among the first rioters to breach the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, has been convicted of plotting to kill FBI special agents who investigated him over his crimes at the Capitol. NBC News affiliate WBIR in Knoxville reported that the jury convicted Kelley on all three counts after just an hour of deliberation. Kelley will be sentenced in the murder plot case on May 7, one month after he is set to be sentenced on his Capitol case, on April 7. The Danish military said Wednesday that it was staying close to a Chinese ship currently sitting idle in Danish waters, days after two fiber-optic data telecommunication cables in the Baltic Sea were severed. Chinese bulk carrier Yi Peng 3 was anchored in the Kattegat strait between Denmark and Sweden on Wednesday, with a Danish navy patrol ship at anchor nearby, MarineTraffic vessel tracking data showed. “The Danish Defense can confirm that we are present in the area near the Chinese ship Yi Peng 3,” the military said in a post on social media X, adding it had no further comments. An NYPD officer and another woman were shot in Queens by an armed robbery suspect who was believed to be responsible for multiple robberies within the span of just about an hour, according to police. As police searched for the suspect, officers were flagged down by a witness who pointed out a man on Jamaica Avenue and 160th Street. The witness told police the man had just robbed a smoke shop on Guy Brewer Boulevard, and fired a shot while doing so, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny. After being ordered to drop his weapon, the suspect fired once, hitting Officer Rich Wong in the thigh, Kenny said at a press conference from the hospital. Worthy, who had been arrested for seven crimes since 2001, was also wanted for three other robberies at gunpoint, according to police.

On some level, I accept the notion that one person’s revenge is another person’s “reform,” so I’m sure Trump could argue he’s appointing reformists. What will ultimately matter is whether these folks can govern like reformers or end up simply as conduits for Trump’s revenge. Here’s the political problem Trump is creating for himself: He’s taking full ownership of the entire bureaucracy now.

The medical aid group treats on average 1,100 outpatients, 54 children in emergency situations and more than 80 sexual and gender-based violence survivors each week, MSF said, as well as many burn victims. Garnier added that while MSF remained committed to the population it could only resume services if it receives guarantees of security and respect by armed groups, members of self-defense groups and law enforcement.

CNN —Investigators are trying to crack the mystery of how two undersea internet cables in the Baltic Sea were cut within hours of each other, with European officials saying they believe the disruption was an act of sabotage and US officials suggesting it was likely an accident. The two cables – the BCS East-West connecting Lithuanian and Sweden and the C-Lion1 linking Finland with Germany – were suddenly disrupted on Sunday and Monday. And the disruption to the cables came just weeks after the US warned that Moscow was likely to target critical undersea infrastructure.
