GORIS, Armenia—It took a whole day for Ararat Ghahriyan and his family to make it out through the narrow corridor of land leading to Armenia.
Normally the trip would only take a couple of hours.
But since Azerbaijan took control of Nagorno-Karabakh last week after decades of confrontation and war, a deluge of cars, trucks and buses has swamped the one road out, with more than half the enclave’s 120,000 population now having left.
Many of the rest appear set to follow.
