The Fed has a "loaded gun" it can use if the Goldilocks economy worsens, Apollo Asset Management's co-president said. That's as the central back has kept rates high, giving policymakers room to lower them. "I would argue that the Fed put is back, sort of, on the market right now," James Zelter told Bloomberg TV. AdvertisementZelter noted the Fed has maintained "fairly high rates," which currently stand at 5.25%-5.5% — the highest since 2001 . Those Goldilocks conditions have helped stocks rocket upwards, as markets bet on the end of the Fed's rate hikes.

REUTERS/Mike Blake/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Two weeks before Peter Orszag takes the helm as CEO of Lazard (LAZ.N), he is already setting an ambitious goal for the investment bank to double its revenue by 2030. Orszag outlined his plans for the 175-year-old firm in a memo to employees on Thursday, including a raft of personnel changes. The revenue aspirations are being locked in at a time when sluggish dealmaking has weighed on earnings and prompted Lazard to eliminate 10% of its workforce. Boosting revenue in asset management will require better distribution, improved investment performance and potentially an acquisition, Orszag wrote in the memo.

Latest bank lending data suggests the credit crunch "has already started," according to Morgan Stanley strategists. Here's a selection of recent warnings on the emerging threat from experts including Larry Summers, David Solomon, Mike Wilson, Nouriel Roubini and Bill Gross. Apollo Asset Management's Jim Zelter told Bloomberg "it's not a credit crunch" but rather a "transition period" as markets face higher debt costs. "That credit crunch is going to make the likelihood of a recession — a hard landing — much greater than before. "Whether this qualifies as a full-blown 'credit crunch' remains to be seen.
