Instead, he suggests searching for objects—a barn, an animal, a person—to create scenes that add context and relate a story or mood.
When he does want to zero in, Quintano looks out for details like raindrops pooled on colorful foliage or the filigree veining that makes every leaf unique.
Smartphones can actually excel in tight quarters, he said.
