Harris opens up new potential paths to victorySince entering the race, Harris has shown momentum in early polling. This became worrisome for the Biden campaign as warning signs flashed in states like Virginia and New Hampshire. The positive early polling is a great sign for the vice president, but it isn't the only metric that shows momentum. Trump's pick for vice president makes things interestingVice presidential picks are far from guaranteed to help a presidential hopeful win a state. With Biden out of the race, Democrats will likely seek to tie the election — anchored by Harris' candidacy — to the party's future.

Under the University of Virginia Center for Politics' current projections, there are five true toss-up states: Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada. The reality is that if Biden is stuck playing defense in states Democrats usually win, Trump's return to the White House will be a foregone conclusion. The only question then will be how many Electoral College votes would the former president win. "If Biden's position gets worse, that's when you see maybe a Virginia or New Mexico get in play," Kondik said. Virginia, New Hampshire, New Mexico, or Minnesota are not going to be the states that put Trump over 270.

Silver Spring, Maryland CNN —The farmers market in this suburb of Washington, DC, was a ripe crowd for Angela Alsobrooks, who’s locked in an increasingly contentious Senate Democratic primary on Tuesday. “I would really like to see a Black woman in the Senate. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., announced Friday that he is not running for president after spending months mulling a bid that would have shaken up the 2024 campaign. I will not be involved in a presidential run," Manchin said during a speech. In a statement following Manchin's announcement, former Connecticut Sen. Joe Liberman, former North Carolina Gov. Some around Biden agree Manchin may have a point in how to make the pitch. As Biden tries to assert the success of his presidency, Manchin says he shaped “everything” in the president’s agenda. “It’s been far less organized than he expected it to be” and “he doesn’t see a plan coming together,” a person familiar with Hogan’s thinking told CNN. “No matter what side of the fence you might be on, where you are for philosophically, we learned to navigate that,” he told CNN. Several anti-Trump Republicans who listened to Manchin’s speech told CNN they were happy to hear him.

Polls indicate New Hampshire offers Haley her best chance for a win, while DeSantis, polling a distant third, is already looking ahead to South Carolina. While Tuesday's primary result is expected to be narrower, the latest polls of likely New Hampshire GOP primary voters show Trump leading Haley by double digits. They have been joined in recent days by a growing number of Trump's one time Republican primary rivals — Nebraska Gov. In New Hampshire, Haley is right: She and Trump are the top two candidates by far in the polls, with DeSantis a distant third. Days away from the New Hampshire primary, DeSantis' campaign is already shifting resources to South Carolina, while still holding some events in New Hampshire.

Before entering the 2024 presidential race, Ron DeSantis proudly touted his conservative record. The governor's fights with Disney didn't endear him to GOP primary voters in the way he had hoped. For decades, tourists have come to the state from all over the world to visit Walt Disney World. Should Trump's lead hold, says Andrew Smith, director of the University of New Hampshire poll, Trump will become the first candidate – aside from sitting presidents – to win both the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary. "We're so far past the days when voters nationally were really just waking up" to the campaign debates in the early weeks of a presidential election year, says Dante Scala, a University of New Hampshire professor and author of the book "Stormy Weather: The New Hampshire Primary and Presidential Politics." New Hampshire GOP voters, however, are a different breed of Republicans, Smith says, focusing more on fiscal conservatism and small government. Haley has 36% support and DeSantis 6% backing among primary voters. Trump seems to think so, too: He has focused much of his vitriol in the waning days of the New Hampshire campaign on Haley.

A Left Turn for Democrats in New Hampshire?

Since their narrow victories in 2016, Democrats have won every federal race in New Hampshire – and have done so by widening margins. But Sununu, the scion of a New Hampshire Republican dynasty, decided not to run for a new term in 2024. Depending on vacancies and special elections, the Democrats might be able to flip control of the chamber even before the 2024 election. Under Biden, Democrats changed the order of their primaries to place New Hampshire tied for second, rather than first. Regardless, the unusual nature of the 2024 primary could have negative consequences for Democrats, Galdieri said.

Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia will not run for reelection in 2024, the moderate Democrat announced on social media Thursday, a blow for his party’s chances to hold onto control of the Senate in next year’s midterms. Montana Sen. Steve Daines, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, released a statement minutes after Manchin’s announcement, saying, “We like our odds in West Virginia.”It’s unclear what specifically Manchin will do after leaving Capitol Hill. I’ve been in races to win,” Manchin said at the time in July. “And if I get in a race, I’m going to win.”Throughout his time in Washington, Manchin has found himself at odds with members of his own party, both in and out of the Capitol. Manchin, a former governor of West Virginia, was first elected to the Senate in 2010.

“Trump made us smaller,” Mr. Christie tells his audience as he prowls the stage, explaining that he wants to go after Mr. Trump for two reasons: “One, he deserves it. Almost any pollster will tell you that Mr. Trump’s support is soft once you look beyond the MAGA base. Mr. Christie is the only candidate speaking directly, specifically, to this fear. But in national surveys, Mr. Christie is still polling in the low single digits. But there is something deeper at work here, and it holds clues about what it would take to attack Mr. Trump successfully.

CNN —A furious scramble for second place is underway in the crowded Republican primary contest, with candidates vying for an opportunity to directly take on front-runner Donald Trump. Since the 2024 presidential race began, the second-place spot in GOP primary polling has been a coveted one. He was more muted compared with other rivals at last month’s first Republican primary debate in Milwaukee, and he’s now polling at similar levels to several other non-Trump contenders. She said she ultimately intends to take part in the Republican primary and is considering Haley, Christie or former Texas Rep. Will Hurd. This cycle is shaping up to be similar to that, said Kyle Plotkin, a veteran Republican campaign strategist.

“When she was here last week, we didn’t have to call people, people were calling us,” he said. And with voters and donors starting to pay more attention, her rivals are likely to as well. Since the last debate, Ms. Haley has mostly split her time between New Hampshire and South Carolina while also making up ground in Iowa. She has continued to burnish her foreign policy credentials, criticize Republicans on spending — which played well in the first debate — and call for a change in generational leadership. But she also pledged to defund sanctuary cities and send the military into Mexico to tackle drug cartels.

White House blasts RFK Jr for 'antisemitic conspiracy theories'

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre joined a chorus of Democratic outrage at the comments from the 69-year-old son of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, a member of the Kennedy political dynasty who was assassinated while running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1968. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2024, putting him directly in competition with Biden, who is seeking a second four-year term. Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. waves to the audience after delivering a foreign policy speech at St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, U.S., June 20, 2023. Every aspect of these comments reflect some of the most abhorrent antisemitic conspiracy theories throughout history and contributes to today's dangerous rise of antisemitism," Jean-Pierre said. The New York Post on Saturday published a video that appeared to show Kennedy speaking at a dinner in Manhattan.

Should Manchin seek another term, he would likely face a serious challenge from Governor Jim Justice who is seeking the Republican Party nomination in the Senate race. Meanwhile, Manchin has not swatted away reporters' questions over whether he might consider what would be a long-shot run for the White House as an independent candidate. Trump, a 77-year-old former president, leads a crowded field of Republican presidential aspirants and many voters express worries about 80-year-old President Joe Biden seeking a second term. With more than a decade in Congress, Manchin at times has complicated legislative initiatives being pushed by his party leaders. But Democratic leaders have treaded softly as Manchin also has been key to the party holding onto its Senate majority.

As the ostensibly bipartisan interest group No Labels discovered on Monday, consensus campaigning and governance is all well and good until it comes time for the details. At an event at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., the group had something of a soft launch of its potential third-party bid for the presidency when Senator Joe Manchin III, Democrat of West Virginia, and Jon Huntsman Jr., the former Republican governor of Utah, formally released No Labels’ policy manifesto for political compromise. The two men took pains to say they were not the bipartisan presidential ticket of a No Labels candidacy, and that no such ticket would be formed if the Republican and Democratic nominees for 2024 would just embrace their moderation — “that won’t happen if they’re not threatened,” Mr. Manchin said threateningly. On the lofty matter of cooperation and compromise, both men were all in, as were their introducers, Joseph I. Lieberman, a former Democratic senator turned independent, Benjamin Chavis, a civil rights leader and Democrat, and Pat McCrory, a former Republican governor of North Carolina.

The West Virginia Democrat’s model has served him well with repeated statewide wins in one of the most conservative pro-Trump states in the nation. For now, Manchin’s noncommittal answers are worrying some of his Democratic colleagues. Polls show that both Biden and Trump, the front-runner for the GOP nomination, are unpopular. It argues, therefore, that 79 electoral votes are potentially at risk for Biden from the involvement of a third-party challenger. Such a challenger would also need to win states where Biden won big, and at least some conservative bastions.

The No Labels group on Monday will release a policy document which could be a blueprint for a White House bid. Many Democrats have blasted No Labels' recent activities, saying they could hurt Biden's reelection bid. The group strongly backs the Second Amendment, but also believes in universal background checks and restrictions on semiautomatic rifles. Chris Sununu, who floated a potential 2024 presidential bid but opted out of a campaign, told The Times that No Labels has found a political lane that is appealing to many Americans. "I'll give them credit in that No Labels seems to be tapping into what America is looking for right now," he told the newspaper.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the political scion and prominent vaccine skeptic who is challenging President Biden for the Democratic presidential nomination, reported an income of $7.8 million in the year leading up to his entry into the race, including nearly $1.6 million from his consulting work for a personal injury law firm known for litigation against pharmaceutical companies. The details came in a financial disclosure form filed Friday with the Federal Election Commission. It shows that Mr. Kennedy earned $5 million at his environmental law firm, Kennedy & Madonna, and a $516,000 salary and bonus as chairman and chief legal counsel of Children’s Health Defense, a nonprofit group he formed that has campaigned against vaccines. (The disclosure says he has been on leave from the organization since April, when he announced his campaign.) Mr. Kennedy, a leading skeptic of vaccinations and prescription medications, has gained a foothold in the race even as he has contorted facts about vaccine development and public health authorities and increasingly embraced conservative figures and causes.

Before Covid, Gabe Whitney, a 41-year-old from West Bath, Maine, didn’t think much about vaccines. He began following anti-vax figures like Del Bigtree, Robert Malone and, of course, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whom Whitney already admired for his environmental work. Kennedy has long touted an illusory connection between vaccines and autism, and has repeatedly said that pandemic restrictions arose from a C.I.A. plan to “clamp down totalitarian control.” If Kennedy was so wrong, Whitney thought, it didn’t make sense that his critics wouldn’t debate him. Ron DeSantis is losing his grip on his supporters in New Hampshire, polling shows. His support may be dwindling because of Trump's indictment, DeSantis' position on abortion, or simply his charisma. After visiting the state and hobnobbing with locals, DeSantis' support has only dropped. Still, DeSantis hasn't been doing so hot nationally, either, and has seen his polling average dip by around ten points over the same period we're looking at in New Hampshire. Voters in New Hampshire, however, may not be the most enthused by DeSantis' legislation.

June 6 (Reuters) - Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is expected to formally announce his 2024 presidential campaign on Tuesday in New Hampshire, joining a growing Republican field led by Donald Trump. A former federal prosecutor, Christie, 60, has argued he is the only potential rival with the skills and willingness to attack Trump directly. He netted just 1% support from potential Republican primary voters in a Reuters/Ipsos poll in May, compared to Trump's 49% support and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' 19% support. That strategy may entice Republican voters who are ready to move past Trump, but it remains unclear whether any Republican can prevail without the support of Trump's still-loyal base. Despite his early support for Trump, Christie was passed over for vice president and for attorney general, and was fired as the head of Trump's transition team just three days after the 2016 election.
