HALF MOON BAY, Calif. — A Minnesota horticulture teacher remained the reigning champion Monday of an annual pumpkin-weighing contest in Northern California where his massive gourds have won the top prize four years in a row. Travis Gienger, of Anoka, Minnesota, beat his closest competitor by 6 pounds to clinch the victory at the 51st World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, south of San Francisco. His winning gourd came in at 2,471 pounds, falling short of the world record he set last year with a pumpkin weighing 2,749 pounds. “We had really, really tough weather and somehow, some way, I kept on working,” Gienger said. He said the giant pumpkin’s next stop will be in Southern California, where a team of professional carvers will do a 3D carve on it at a Halloween event.

It allows the city to suspend a landlord’s rental license if police answer four or more “nuisance” calls in a year. (AP) — A Minnesota horticulture teacher set a world record in California on Monday for the heaviest pumpkin after growing a giant jack-o'-lantern gourd weighing 2,749 pounds (1,247 kilograms). Travis Gienger of Anoka, Minnesota, won the 50th World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, California, with an enormous, lumpy, orange pumpkin that could produce at least 687 pies. The previous world record for heaviest pumpkin was set by a grower in Italy who produced a 2,702-pound (1,226-kilogram) squash in 2021, according to Guinness World Records. He first competed in Half Moon Bay's annual weigh-off in 2020 and has won three of the city's last four giant pumpkin contests. The pumpkin champ won a $30,000 prize for growing the biggest pumpkin and setting a world record.

Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. on Monday said it named Sudhanshu Priyadarshi chief financial officer, effective Nov. 14, plucking the executive from Vista Outdoor Inc.Keurig’s previous finance chief, Ozan Dokmecioglu, earlier the year succeeded Bob Gamgort as chief executive, and the Burlington, Mass., beverage company had said it was looking to recruit a new chief financial officer. Vista said Mr. Priyadarshi, who joined the Anoka, Minn., maker of sporting and outdoor products as chief financial officer in April 2020, will continue to fulfill his duties until his departure, including the release of the company’s fiscal second-quarter results. Vista said it has launched a formal search for a successor to Mr. Priyadarshi, adding that Andrew Keegan, currently vice president of finance and treasury, will serve as interim finance chief. Keurig said Mr. Priyadarshi, 45 years old, will receive an annual base salary of $850,000 and will be eligible for an annual bonus with a target of 80% of his base pay. Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. hired a new executive to lead its finances after it promoted its former chief financial officer to the role of chief executive. In his new role, Mr. Priyadarshi will oversee Keurig Dr Pepper’s finance and information technology divisions. Keurig Dr Pepper is scheduled to report quarterly results on Thursday. Keurig Dr Pepper has said that acquisitions are a top priority for capital allocation. Keurig Dr Pepper Monday said Mr. Priyadarshi wasn’t available for an interview and declined to comment beyond its release.
