Journalist and former legislator Villavicencio was shot while leaving a rally in August 2023, becoming the most prominent victim of Ecuador’s spiraling violence. Both Angulo and Castillo were sentenced to 34 years and eight months. One of the hitmen died at the scene of Villavicencio’s murder and seven other suspects - mostly Colombian citizens - were murdered in October while being held in prisons on pre-trial detention. LIMA — A three-day mourning period began in southern Peru on Tuesday after 17 more people were killed in the most violent day of protests since they began in December over the ousting of former President Pedro Castillo. Social protests have left a total of 39 dead so far in different parts of the country. Images from local media showed looting of businesses in Puno on Monday night and the region’s Juliaca airport remained closed on Tuesday. Likewise, airport operations in the Andean region of Ayacucho remained suspended as a security measure. The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights has announced it will visit Peru this week from Wednesday to Friday to assess the situation.
Hours later, Jorge Angulo, head of the operational command of the national police, confirmed the death of one policeman who was in the vehicle. Boluarte was vice president until earlier this month when her predecessor, former President Pedro Castillo, was removed from office and then detained after illegally trying to dissolve Congress. She did not hint at a possible replacement for Pedro Angulo, who had been prime minister for just a week. Boluarte also added that the new Cabinet, which will work with the opposition-led Congress, will be "a little more political." Former President Castillo frequently butted heads with Congress, which held two unsuccessful impeachment trials against him.

You need to develop these players, these Qataris in the right way, but we will see what happens after the World Cup," he said. With that in mind, the Qatar Stars League will start again on Thursday, four days after the World Cup final, with Lerin's Al Shamal in action against Al Wakrah on Friday. "I think it will be difficult for them to play in another World Cup, really difficult, but at the same time now the rules of the World Cup are changing and there are more teams," Lerin explained.

But many migrants aren’t waiting for the ban to end, and another surge has already begun. CBP agents are reporting approximately 2,500 migrants crossing into El Paso per day, a number expected to rise when, absent a court-ordered stay, Title 42 ends Dec. 21. Since the Trump administration imposed Title 42 in March 2020, migrants attempting to enter the U.S. to claim asylum have been sent back to Mexico more than 2.4 million times.
