Kate Bedingfield served as White House communications director in the Biden administration and was the deputy campaign manager on Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign. That contentious exchange during the 2020 debate put Biden on the defensive. A President Trump might make their decisions about retirement that much easier. David Urban, a CNN political commentator, served as an adviser to then-President Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign. On Thursday, President Biden needs to do it again.

A judge found Trump liable for fraud for inflating his net worth to get friendly loans, and juries found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defaming Carroll. DEL VALLE: This is actually my fourth Trump trial. Here, it’s almost been interesting how at moments it just felt like a regular trial. Reporters in the courtroom sat behind Trump – with a view often blocked by the many officers in the aisles of the gallery. The response prompted one of the biggest laughs in the courtroom in the entire trial – even several jurors were laughing.

NATO states' increased defense spending in recent years has little to do with Trump, experts told BI. NATO spending has indeed accelerated since Trump entered politics. It ain't what you do, it's the way that you do itTrump's demands of NATO allies also weren't a departure from existing US policy. Threatening partners is "bananas"Trump's transactional take on NATO collective defense is ultimately reasonable, Bury said — but encouraging other countries to attack NATO allies is "bananas." AdvertisementIf US allies are spending more money on NATO defense, it's not because Trump is goading them, but because they're concerned about increasing global instability.

Many Trump supporters not only dislike DeSantis, but echo Trump's assertions that DeSantis betrayed him and say they would never consider him again. Former President Donald Trump is set to testify at his civil fraud in New York this week. Photo: Brandon Bell/Getty ImagesDonald Trump is expected to take the witness stand Monday in a Manhattan civil-fraud trial that has featured increasingly charged exchanges between the former president’s lawyers and a judge who could cripple his business empite. Away from cameras and under oath, the 2024 Republican presidential front-runner is expected to face questioning about how his company calculated his net worth and the worth of his assets as it sought hundreds of millions of dollars in loans. Democratic New York Attorney General Letitia James alleges Trump for years inflated his worth by billions of dollars to secure unfair financial advantages.

But in many ways, Pence's campaign ended years before it officially began, in the days leading up to Jan. 6, 2021. While the issue became less salient as the campaign went on, Pence was heckled and booed at times. During his campaign launch event, Pence addressed Jan. 6 head-on, defending his actions and saying Trump disqualified himself during that period. Even at Pence's opening campaign event, many in attendance said they liked and respected him, but had yet to make a decision. This past week, Pence began dialing top supporters to let them know that he decided to end the campaign.

But the front-running GOP presidential primary candidate was there – and he was pissed. Yet Trump was seething for another reason altogether – or so he claimed: His mounting legal challenges were preventing him from campaigning. “Trump campaigning from a courtroom is so Trumpian,” says Tobe Berkovitz, associate professor of advertising emeritus at Boston University. Separately from the civil trial in New York focusing on fraud, Trump faces 91 criminal charges stemming from four state and federal cases. And like the mug shot, Trump’s presence in the courtroom this week gave his supporters something he can’t give them on the campaign trail – a physical representation of the system he claims is out to get him.

Bezos founded Amazon but it is unconnected to the Post, which Bezos bought with his own funds and in Baron’s telling, seems to genuinely relish owning. Baron, executive editor of the Post from 2013-2021, clearly has researched extensively and thought deeply about how to cover the unprecedented presidency of Donald Trump. Baron writes that he “needed to get myself ready for his brand of presidency” and cites the books he read on authoritarianism and the manipulation of public opinion. To any who think the news media march to the same cadences, Baron writes “newsrooms often are a wellsprings of conflict, dissent and grievance.”Often, though, from spirited arguments, great journalism arises. Baron writes that the Committee to Protect Journalists, which typically monitors threats to press freedom in other countries, began to focus on Trump as a threat within U.S. borders.

Former U.S. Vice President and Republican presidential candidate Mike Pence speaks at the Republican Party of Iowa's Lincoln Day Dinner in Des Moines, Iowa, U.S., July 28, 2023. Trump, working with six co-conspirators, pushed Pence to refuse to certify the results based on his accusations of voter fraud on multiple occasions, the indictment alleges. But the Vice President who had stood at Trump's side for four stormy years refused. In special counsel Jack Smith's 45-page indictment of Trump, Pence is a frequent participant in the narrative, which includes detailed recollections of private calls and conversations. The indictment describes Trump pressuring Pence to overturn or otherswise tamper with 2020 election results on a number of occasions in the weeks leading up to Jan. 6, including on Christmas Day 2020.

Donald Trump said on Monday evening that Alvin Bragg should "INDICT HIMSELF." District Attorney Bragg just illegally LEAKED the various points, and complete information, on the pathetic Indictment against me," Trump wrote on Monday. "Now, if he wants to really clean up his reputation, he will do the honorable thing and, as District Attorney, INDICT HIMSELF," added Trump. It is also unclear what information Trump was referring to when he wrote on Monday about "various points" and "complete information" being leaked. Representatives for Trump and the Manhattan district attorney's office did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment sent outside regular business hours.
A Manhattan grand jury voted to indict Donald Trump, possibly over a "hush-money" payment. Here's a timeline of Trump and Daniels' alleged relationship, the $130,000 payment to keep Daniels silent, and the testimonies leading to a possible indictment. Markus Schreiber/APManhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg convened a grand jury in mid-January of this year to consider an indictment against Trump. The former president has been asking his confidantes what they think of his social media posts. The sources added that Trump has asked several confidants what they think of his recent explosive posts on social media, per Rolling Stone. The post containing the image of Trump with the baseball bat has since been deleted from Trump's Truth Social account. Trump's other raging remarks directed at the investigation, such as his warning of "potential death and destruction" if he were indicted, sre still up on Truth Social. In one such post, Trump claimed Bragg "IS JUST CARRYING OUT THE PLANS OF THE RADICAL LEFT LUNATICS.
Former Vice President Mike Pence, who huddled in the bowels of the U.S. Capitol on Jan 6, 2021 as angry Trump supporters searched for him, tells “Meet the Press” that “no one is above the law” when asked about former President Donald Trump. But the former vice president, who Trump publicly blamed for not halting a peaceful transfer of power, also warned the Biden administration about over-reaching in their attempts to hold Trump to account. “I don’t know if it is criminal to listen to bad advice from the lawyers,” Pence told “Meet the Press” Moderator Chuck Todd in an interview on Thursday. But I would hope the Justice Department would give careful consideration before they take any additional steps in this matter,” Pence said. Pence says he has not hesitated to criticize the former president when he thinks he was wrong, though stops short of calling him unfit for office.
The run-up to Election Day 2022 was marred by fears of chaos and refusals to concede. A slew of Trump-backed candidates who rejected the legitimacy of the 2020 election were on the ballot. Election Day went smoothly, and while there were minor issues in places like Maricopa County, Arizona, they were quickly identified and resolved and there were no broader infrastructure problems. Taking a lesson from the 2020 election, cybersecurity and election security officials also stepped up efforts to combat disinformation related to this year's midterms. Crucially, many of Trump's handpicked candidates conceded defeat when their races were called.
