“The Simpsons” is saying goodbye to the voice behind some of its most iconic characters. Pamela Hayden, who voiced Milhouse Van Houten and a slew of other characters, announced she is retiring from the show after 35 years. “The time has come for me to hang up my microphone, but how do I say goodbye to The Simpsons?” Hayden said in a news release. “We named him Milhouse because that was the most unfortunate name a kid could have,” Groening said in a statement. “People come up to me and they quote Milhouse lines,” Hayden said in a video FOX shared Wednesday to commemorate her roles.

What was supposed to be a simple birthday treat devolved into the latest flashpoint after “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg implied that a New York bakery refused to take her order because of her liberal politics. But the distinctive polka-dotted packaging on the cakes left local viewers little doubt about which business she was talking about: Holtermann’s Bakery in Staten Island. Goldberg and Holtermann’s Bakery did not immediately respond to NBC News’ requests for comment. But Holtermann, who joined Fossella at Friday’s news conference, said that the bakery has received “overwhelming” support in the wake of the incident. The report adds to some other examples of hateful rhetoric spreading after Trump’s victory. Gender played a central role in this year’s election as Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign emphasized reproductive rights. Even before his election, Trump and his supporters had targeted Harris with misogynistic comments throughout her campaign. On platforms like TikTok, women posted about the misogynistic comments they had received parroting Fuentes’ remarks, with many also rebuking the sentiment. A TikTok spokesperson confirmed that phrases like “your body, my choice” violates community guidelines, except for instances of counterspeech.

A political video reminded women that they can vote for Vice President Kamala Harris without telling their husbands, enraging prominent conservatives and reigniting a fiery discourse that highlights the central role of gender in this year’s election. “Did you make the right choice?” one of the husbands asks. “Sure did, honey,” his wife responds with a smile, sharing a knowing glance with the woman beside her. Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign has embraced an image of traditional masculinity, actively courting influencers and comedians who are popular among young men. In a new motion filed Wednesday, the animal rights organization accused exotic animal broker Tonia Haddix of committing perjury and violating previous court orders, citing the recent HBO docuseries “Chimp Crazy” as evidence. In a January 2022 virtual court testimony featured in “Chimp Crazy,” Haddix sobbed as she insisted under oath that Tonka had died and was cremated. Later, however, authorities found the chimp alive and concealed in a basement cage, according to a June 2022 court filing. In the third episode of “Chimp Crazy,” Haddix said that she and Aswegan sedated Tonka and took him to a hotel. Some comics online did not specifically call out Hinchcliffe’s jokes at the rally but shared broader thoughts about comedians’ crossing the line. On an August episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Rogan said Trump should hire Hinchcliffe to “write bangers” for him on the road. But Hinchcliffe’s joke about Puerto Rico landed poorly across both political parties. While most comedians did not come to Hinchcliffe’s defense, “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart said such jokes should have been expected from a comedian like Hinchcliffe. Meta is ramping up its efforts to fight sextortion on Instagram with the launch of new features that are designed to help prevent young users from getting blackmailed into sharing nude photos. Starting Thursday, Instagram will automatically block follow requests sent to teenage users from accounts that display certain “scammy behaviors,” according to Meta. At a Senate online child safety hearing in January, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologized to parents who said Instagram contributed to their children’s suicides or exploitation. Last month, Meta announced it will begin automatically placing all users under 18 into “teen accounts” with stricter privacy settings. “If they really want to promote meaningful change and online safety for kids and teens, they can stop opposing federal solutions like the Kids Online Safety Act,” Hinkle said.

A National Geographic documentary crew may have found partial remains of the foot of Andrew “Sandy” Irvine, the famed mountaineer who disappeared on Mount Everest 100 years ago. The climbers were trekking Everest in late September when they spotted a disembodied foot inside of a boot that appeared perfectly preserved yet undeniably old. It is not known whether the pair ever reached the summit — an important Everest mystery among climbers and historians alike. Fisher’s documentary team, which included photographer and director Jimmy Chin and filmmaker Erich Roepke, came across the boot while exploring the Central Rongbuk Glacier on the northern side of Mount Everest. “We haven’t done DNA tests yet, so we can’t 100% say with certainty that this is indeed Irvine’s boot, but like I said, the nameplate is perfectly stitched on there.

Actor Simu Liu blasted a pair of Quebec entrepreneurs last week who went on Canada’s version of “Shark Tank” to pitch a drink they say has “transformed” boba tea. Sébastien Fiset and Jess Frenette, founders of a bottled popping boba and alcoholic bubble tea brand called Bobba, were seeking $1 million in exchange for 18% of the company. Their products include cans of alcoholic bubble tea, as well as grab-and-go packets of popping boba. “Dragons, you have probably heard about bubble tea,” Frenette said before Liu quickly interjected with a sarcastic: “I’ve never, has anyone else heard of bubble tea? Not everything has to be traditional.”Fiset responded by saying Bobba’s popping boba makes the drink “not an ethnical product anymore.” Minhas agreed that the popping boba was new, saying she’d never experienced it.

A torrent of false claims has muddied details around the recovery efforts following the storm, which left hundreds dead and entire communities destroyed. That weariness has been echoed by other local officials and citizens who are still reeling from one of the worst storms in U.S. history. Trump used his high-profile return to Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was nearly killed by a gunman, to continue to spread false claims about FEMA. Even as some claims were quickly debunked, more continued to surface across platforms such as X, TikTok and Facebook.
