Unlike younger generations, who until recently may have taken federal abortion protections for granted, older women recall the era of illegal backroom abortions that preceded Roe. A fight for the senior voteNot all older women are motivated by abortion. But in a race that is expected to be decided on the margins, boosting support among women and older voters could make a difference. There are some signs in early voting data that women seniors are highly motivated to vote, said Tom Bonier, a Democratic strategist and CEO of the data firm TargetSmart. Abortion bans in many states, including North Carolina, make exceptions for ectopic pregnancies, but patients have reported delays in care.

His loved ones, who witnessed his drug and alcohol abuse for years, were heartbroken by what his mother later described as an unavoidable outcome. His mother spoke about processing her grief and teared up when talking about how powerless one can feel against a loved one’s struggles with addiction. In the months leading up to his death, Perry appeared to have turned a corner with his addiction, relatives said. Now, loved ones switch tenses from past to present to past again as they remember the complicated man who brought them so much joy. It’s a familiar story for the millions of people whose loved ones have addiction disorders and is a guiding principle for the foundation, the family said.

Having a colonoscopy served as the wake-up call she needed to make lifestyle changes to improve her health. I've struggled with constipation and bleeding with bowel movements since childhood. When I was 16, I decided to become vegan, but I was still eating a high-processed vegan diet, so the change didn't help my digestive issues. The bleeding with bowel movements continued on and off through adulthood but got continuously worse with age. After the colonoscopy and lifestyle changes, now at 25, I experience bleeding or pain with bowel movements maybe once a year.

“South Carolina is a great state. Or would a more fitting tribute to Smalls be to recognize the statesman who served in the South Carolina House and Senate and the U.S. House after the Civil War? That’s how Republican Rep. Chip Campsen, an occasional ship pilot himself, sees honoring one of his favorite South Carolinians. While South Carolina has a monument with multiple panels honoring the struggle of African Americans from their journey on slave ships through today, it doesn’t honor an individual Black man or women among the two dozen monuments scattered around the Statehouse. I think it is important that we tell that the right way to honor him and to honor south Carolina.

CNN —Oscar-winning actor Sally Field has opened up about a “life-altering” abortion she had as a teenager, aiming to highlight the issue of reproductive rights. Field recalled the ordeal in a video posted to her Instagram, saying that she got an abortion when she was 17 in Tijuana, Mexico, on the advice of a doctor, who was also a family friend. The doctor, she said, drove her to the clinic, accompanied by Field’s mother and the doctor’s wife. She has previously voiced support for Democratic candidates and long advocated for women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights and combating climate change. “We can’t go back,” Field said in the video.

A California doctor is expected to plead guilty Wednesday in a deal with federal prosecutors over the fatal overdose of “Friends” star Matthew Perry last year. According to an 18-count indictment filed in August, Chavez is one of five individuals charged in connection with Perry's accidental overdose. The other individuals charged in connection with Perry’s death include the actor’s live-in personal assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, 60, and Erik Fleming, 54, a friend of Perry’s who authorities described as a “street dealer.” Both have pleaded guilty and await sentencing. Also charged is Jasveen Sangha, 41, an alleged drug dealer known as the “ketamine queen” who has pleaded not guilty. “We allege each of the defendants played a key role in his death by falsely prescribing, selling or injecting the ketamine that caused Matthew Perry’s tragic death,” Drug Enforcement Administration chief Anne Milgram said when the charges were announced.

I witnessed this firsthand as a White House physician for three presidents, including as the designated physician to the president for Barack Obama during his first term. My presidential patients often worked 12-hour days seven days a week. My role as White House physician was to keep the president healthy and performing optimally, and to provide the public with a candid medical assessment of his ability to carry out the duties of his office. Typically, the 25th Amendment came into play when a president was going under general anesthesia for a colonoscopy or scheduled surgical procedure. It is widely assumed that the physician to the president will gather and provide pertinent medical information to those contemplating whether the amendment needs to be invoked.

She started researching and found numerous articles preaching the advantages of freezing eggs before age 35 for higher viability in the future. For the first time, egg freezing was an option for younger women worried about their reproductive future. But that also comes with a cost — and Carney doesn't plan to do another round. Other studies have found that there isn't much added benefit to freezing eggs earlier than 30. Fertility clinics have an obvious business case for trying to convince as many people as possible that egg freezing is something they should do.

Did she understand that when the lights went dim she would be treated like a clinical practice dummy, her genitalia palpated by a succession of untrained hands? I don’t know. Like most medical students, I just did as I was told. Much of the force behind the new requirement came from distressed medical students who saw these pelvic exams as wrong and summoned the courage to speak out. Whether the guidance will actually change clinical practice I don’t know.
