Video The mayor of Lviv called this the worst attack on the city since the war started. Still, Russia has shifted its strategy with missile and drone attacks throughout the war, hitting one city one night and then targeting several on another. In the early days of the war, the 700,000 residents of Lviv prepared themselves for a full-scale onslaught that never materialized. A day before the attack on Lviv, Ukraine destroyed a military base in the Russian-occupied city of Makiivka. Consequences of the night attack by Russian terrorists.

After earlier attacks, the Ukrainian military reported shooting down incoming Russian missiles and explosive drones, but some still reached their targets, damaging power and water supplies and increasing the suffering of the population amid freezing temperatures. Ukrainian authorities in several regions said some incoming Russian missiles were intercepted. Efrem Lukatsky / APFragments from downed Russian missiles damaged two private buildings in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, the city administration said. Earlier this month, the United States agreed to give a Patriot missile battery to Ukraine to boost the country’s defense. Russian officials have said that any peace plan can only proceed from Kyiv’s recognition of Russia’s sovereignty over the regions it illegally annexed from Ukraine in September.
KYIV, Ukraine — Rockets rained down on Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities amid stepped-up attacks Wednesday, less than 24 hours after officials said a newborn became one of the youngest victims of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war. After Wednesday's barrage, plumes of smoke rose over the capital, Kyiv, which has been spared much of the violence that struck other parts of the country during most of the war. A high-rise building was hit and a fire started in Kyiv, Andriy Nebytov, who leads the capital's regional police force, said in a Telegram post, adding that officers were working to clear the debris. In a separate post to its Telegram channel, the city's military administration said three people had died and six people were injured in the attacks. The strikes came after the newborn was killed when Russian shells pounded a maternity ward in the south of the country late Tuesday, Ukrainian officials said.
N-iX, an IT firm with a big presence in Lviv, described how it'd managed amid the latest attacks. But like many Ukrainian companies, N-iX was prepared with a contingency plan that allowed it to continue servicing clients in the attack's aftermath. "It started in the morning," Deshchynskyy told Insider. Ukrainian tech workers and companies have rallied to help the war effort, including by joining the "IT army" and providing tech services for the military. And just two weeks ago, N-iX was the main partner at the annual IT Arena tech conference, which was held in Lviv.

Ukraine's vice prime minister confirmed that Kyiv, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia were struck. The attacks came after a blast crippled a bridge in Crimea that serves as a Russian supply line. This fresh volley of attacks from Russia comes after the Kerch Strait Bridge, a key supply route connecting Russia and Crimea, was damaged in a blast on Saturday. For his part, Putin on Sunday labeled the bridge blast a "terrorist act" carried out by the "special services of Ukraine." Ukraine has not officially claimed responsibility for the Kerch Strait Bridge blast but has hinted at its involvement in the incident.
