CNN —Two Georgia election workers who won a massive verdict against Rudy Giuliani because he defamed them after the 2020 election are asking a federal judge to hold him in contempt of court. The pair, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, say Trump continues to repeat harmful lies about them on his nightly broadcast, in defiance of court orders. Law enforcement missed critical opportunities to prevent a 2022 mass shooting at an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado, a pair of lawsuits filed over the weekend allege. The suits claim that the massacre at Club Q in Colorado Springs, which killed five people and injured at least 19, could have been averted if authorities had enforced Colorado’s red flag law. One was filed by the families of the dead victims and five victims themselves – a second was filed by Barrett Hudson, who sustained seven gunshot wounds. “The shooter had a history of violent threats and behavior that clearly warranted intervention,” the suits say. CNN —United States envoy Amos Hochstein is due to visit Beirut “imminently” after Lebanon responded “positively” to a US-backed proposal to stop the Israel-Hezbollah war, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Monday. ☆ Pompeii: Ancient DNA rewrites the stories of people buried by volcanic eruption

CNN —Ancient DNA has revealed surprises about the identities of some people who perished in the ancient Roman town of Pompeii after a volcanic eruption, overturning misconceptions about their genetic relationships, ancestry and sex. Ash and volcanic rock called pumice then covered Pompeii and its residents, preserving scenes of the victims of the city’s destruction like an eerie time capsule. While the Greeks, Etruscans and Samnites attempted to conquer it, Pompeii became a Roman colony, the study authors noted. In 2015, the Archaeological Park of Pompeii began efforts to restore 86 of the 104 casts originally made by Fiorelli. Together, park scientists and the study authors are working on a larger project to better understand the genetic diversity present in Pompeii during the Roman Empire.

A Texas man charged with manslaughter after hitting the mother of his 1-year-old child with his car will retain his parental rights, a judge has ruled. On Monday, a Randall County Judge ruled in a separate case that he can keep his parental rights over his 1-year-old child with Torres. However, on Monday, Judge James W. Anderson rejected the bid to terminate DeLao's parental rights, the outlets reported. “The judge refused to terminate his parental rights,” Quackenbush told NBC News. “There’s no intention on the part of the court system to take away his parental rights at all now or in the future.
