CNN —Italian alpine skier Matilde Lorenzi died aged 19 from injuries suffered in a training accident, the Italian Ministry of Defense confirmed Tuesday. The rising skiing star suffered a serious crash during a training session on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales, South Tyrol, Italy, according to an International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) statement. “I will always remember her with a smile, with her determination and drive,” her older sister Lucrezia Lorenzi – a World Cup series skier – told CNN affiliate SkyTG24. The 19-year-old was Italian junior champion last season in the overall standings and super-G, according to the Olympic website. ☆ River Seine: Water quality worries as triathlon training canceled again

Paris CNN —The rain that drenched Friday’s opening ceremony may have moved out of Paris, but its effects are still being felt in the River Seine, with water quality concerns throwing the triathlon competition into uncertainty. Training was canceled for a second straight day on Monday after water quality testing deemed the water unsafe for athletes. “Given the weather forecast for the next 36 hours, Paris 2024 and World Triathlon are confident that water quality will return to below limits before the start of the triathlon competitions on July 30,” a joint statement from Paris 2024 and World Triathlon said. But the water quality can change fast. That’s double the level needed for “good” water quality, as per World Triathlon standards.

There have been ongoing concerns that E. coli in the Seine could pose a risk to athlete health. CNN —The Edmonton Oilers aren’t done with their quest to end Canada’s decades-long Stanley Cup drought when they face off against the Florida Panthers in Game 6 on Friday. The Oilers defeated the Panthers 5-3 Tuesday at Amerant Bank Arena, forcing the Stanley Cup Final back to Canada. The Oilers were 0-3 down in the best-of-seven series series, but arguably have the momentum after successive wins as the scene shifts back to Edmonton. If the Oilers secure a win at home on Friday, they would take the series to a winner-takes-all Game 7 in Sunrise, Florida. If they manage to come back and win the series, the Oilers will finally end a three-decade Stanley Cup drought for Canadian teams – the Montreal Canadiens were the last to lift the Cup back in 1993.

CNN —Swimmer Lilly King might be aiming for Olympic glory next month, but she got at least one of her rings early after her longtime boyfriend proposed to her following her race at the US Olympic trials. After coming second in the 200m breaststroke final in Indianapolis on Thursday, the double Olympic gold medallist was greeted by boyfriend James Wells on the pool deck. King had already qualified for her third Summer Games by winning the 100m breaststroke final on Monday. After winning gold in the women’s 100m breaststroke at Rio 2016, King was part of the US team to claim gold in the women’s 4x100m medley relay at the same Games. She won the 100m breaststroke world title in world record time a year later at the 2019 World Championships, and helped the US break the 4x100m medley relay world record.

CNN —British cyclist Katie Archibald will miss the Paris Olympics after breaking her leg in a freak accident. What the heck,” two-time Olympian Archibald wrote alongside a picture of her in hospital, and of her injured leg. Archibald won gold in the team pursuit at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She then took home gold in the madison and silver in the team pursuit at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago. British Cycling confirmed that, following medical advice, Archibald would be unable to compete in next month’s Olympics.
