CNN —Amber Ruffin has some thoughts about those who think that CNN isn’t necessarily the best home for comedy. “I’d say they’re right,” Ruffin told CNN in an interview this week. Based on a British series of the same name, entertainers, political figures and comedians will appear as guests for quick-witted conversation and games. “Anybody who has a sense of humor about the world and has a sense of humor about themselves, I think those are the only prerequisites,” he said about possible team members. “If you can laugh the world and laugh at yourself, I think you’re gonna fit in very well.”“Have I Got News For You” premieres Saturday, September 14 at 9 p.m.

Nicole Brown Simpson's family is collaborating with Lifetime to create a new docuseries. The series aims to provide Brown Simpson's own narrative in one of history's most notorious crimes. Lifetime announced Thursday that "The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson" will premiere on the network on June 1 in a two-night event. After Simpson's death, Brown said her family has been dedicated to the cause of domestic violence in many arenas. "Nicole endured incredible pain, and through that pain, she was able to protect her children.

☆ TV and film writers prepare to return to work under new contract: 'I feel like we're entering a new era'

After 148 days of striking, TV and film writers reached a tentative agreement with studios and streamers regarding their work contracts. WGA members will vote on ratifying the agreement between Oct. 2 and 9, with some writers going back to work as early as next week. That could mean more early career writers get an opportunity to work and gain experience on the ground. Without an opportunity for syndication and international distribution on streaming services, residual pay for writers has been cut significantly as well. The contract also hikes minimum pay for various types of television shows and establishes minimum pay for late night talk shows on streaming services, like "The Amber Ruffin Show," which did not previously have established minimums.

Some otherwise viable shows, like “Annie Get Your Gun,” need surgery because their racial or gender assumptions are now unacceptable. Others, like “Show Boat,” are merely falling out of copyright, with heirs eager to find a way to remonetize their property. And some — well one — are “Here We Are,” the musical Stephen Sondheim was working on when he died in November 2021. Directed by Joe Mantello and with a book by the comic playwright David Ives, it will reflect a very unusual collaboration indeed.
