It then returns an answer within a few seconds, primarily by summarizing information collected from product reviews and the listing itself. The feature could keep shoppers from scrolling through pages of reviews or reading through a listing to find information about a product. The tool is designed not to veer off subject, and will return an error message if it can't answer questions such as, "Who is Jeff Bezos?"

One of Amazon 's key air cargo operators said Monday that the e-commerce giant is scaling back on flights this year, citing lower demand and slower economic growth. Air cargo rates, which surged in recent years due to port congestion and high demand for fast deliveries, have slumped. The move to use a dedicated cargo service will give Amazon tighter control over costs and flight schedules while reducing delivery times across a wider range of products, said Rhoads. "We want to deliver the majority of shipments in two days or less and Amazon Air enables that." Amazon Air will enable the company to offer faster deliveries to customers in India, said Sarah Rhoads, vice president of Amazon Global Air, in a statement. The launch of Amazon Air in India comes as Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is undergoing a broad review of the company's expenses as it stares down a worsening economic outlook and slowing retail sales. Amazon Air, which debuted in 2016, outsources operations to several airlines. Amazon has for years been working to grow its presence in India, which is poised to become one of the fastest-growing e-commerce markets in the world.

Insider's Katherine Long reported Amazon was planning broad pay raises of between $0.50 and $1 on Wednesday before Amazon's announcement. This year saw the creation of the first US Amazon warehouse workers' union at a facility in Staten Island, New York.
