Bela Karolyi, one of the United States' most eminent gymnastics coaches alongside wife Márta, has died at age 82, a spokesperson for USA Gymnastics said Saturday evening. In an interview with USA Gymnastics in 2016, Retton described her first American Cup competition under the Karolyis. In 2016, USA Gymnastics purchased Karolyi Ranch and celebrated the couple’s influence on American competitors. In 2018, USA Gymnastics terminated its contract with Karolyi Ranch and closed the facility in Walker County, Texas. Comăneci said on Instagram that Bela Karolyi was a "big impact and influence in my life."

The National Women's Soccer League unveiled the name of its 15th team Tuesday, dubbing the Boston squad BOS Nation Football Club. Boston Unity Soccer Partners is an "all-female core ownership group," led by founder of Juno Equity and minority owner of the Boston Celtics Jennifer Epstein. “It’s so important for kids to see themselves in their role models and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to support the growth of women’s soccer and sports in my hometown." BOS Nation will host home games in White Stadium, the second venue anchored by a women's professional sports team in the world, according to the team's statement. Jordan Chiles won her first individual Olympic medal in Monday's floor exercise final, but originally, the judges left her off the podium. After losing an all-around bronze medal in a heart-wrenching tiebreaker, Raisman thought she was fourth again on the beam. Raisman was on the 2016 Olympic team with Biles that won team gold and collected more medals than any U.S. gymnastics team in history. Chiles lost the chance to contend for an all-around medal to her teammate Suni Lee, who went on to win bronze. July 27 (Reuters) - A lawsuit filed on Thursday by former Michigan State University athletes victimized by Larry Nassar alleges that its trustees voted in secret to withhold thousands of documents related to the disgraced team doctor in violation of state law. The lawsuit asked the Ingham County Circuit Court to require the board to vote publicly on whether to release the documents or keep them confidential. MSU, Nassar's former employer, previously agreed to a near $500 million settlement with the hundreds of women who were sexually abused by Nassar. USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, with whom Nassar also worked as a team doctor, reached a $380 million settlement. Earlier this month, Nassar was stabbed multiple times by another inmate in prison and was in stable condition.

July 10 (Reuters) - Larry Nassar, the disgraced doctor of USA Gymnastics who was convicted of sexually abusing young female gymnasts, has been stabbed multiple times by another inmate in prison and was in stable condition on Monday, U.S. media reported. Since the Nassar scandal, USA Gymnastics has overhauled its leadership and filed for bankruptcy, saying at the time it was staggering under the weight of lawsuits filed by hundreds of women who were sexually abused by the former team doctor. USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee reached a $380 million settlement. In September 2021, Biles and Maroney were among the high profile Olympic gymnasts who gave heart-wrenching testimony before a U.S. Senate panel about the sexual abuse they endured for years under Nassar's care. At that hearing, the gymnasts blasted the FBI for its mishandling of the investigation, with Biles accusing the bureau of turning a blind eye to all of Nassar's victims.

A bipartisan group of senators is introducing new legislation Thursday aimed at improving the way the FBI interacts with underage victims and witnesses in sex abuse and trafficking cases. The Respect for Child Survivors Act is the latest effort by Congress to address the FBI’s failures in its handling of the Larry Nassar investigation.
