AdvertisementThe Onion's bid for Infowars came together with help from Sandy Hook families. On the surface, The Onion's announcement that it had purchased Alex Jones's Infowars at auction on Thursday may have sounded like a bizarre joke. But behind the scenes, the bid came together through strategic coordination — with the support of Sandy Hook families and a nonprofit that is backed by Michael Bloomberg. "The sale is currently underway, pending standard processes," Collins told Variety Friday in a statement. Advertisement"They've long loved The Onion," Collins told Yahoo, nodding to a headline the outlet publishes verbatim every time there's a mass shooting.

The former employees took "secret information at the heart of Yipit's business" to use in their roles at MScience, Yipit says in its lawsuit. Carlyle-backed data giant Yipit's lawsuit against two former employees — and 10 unnamed "individuals or entities who have conspired" with them — is the talk of the alternative data industry. In the video, Fuentes opens the door and points what appears to be a spraying device toward the camera. The Berwyn Police Department confirmed that it got a call Sunday involving Fuentes and Rose. Fuentes has faced a wave of backlash for a post on X on Nov. 5, when he wrote, “Your body, my choice. Afterward, many users on X began spreading Fuentes’ personal information online, including his home address and pictures of his house, writing, “Your house, our choice.” Since then, Google Maps has blurred its picture of Fuentes’ house. Rose wrote that she was inspired to “pop over there” given Fuentes’ history of antisemitic and white supremacist statements.

Niccol's overarching message: A bunch of changes, both big and small, are coming to Starbucks' menu, mobile app and stores that should satisfy all parties involved. Starbucks stock didn't do much in the five sessions since then, ending Wednesday at $97.32 a share. Starbucks is far from a quick fix, but Niccol on Wednesday night demonstrated that the optimism may not be misplaced. As for mobile orders, which account for more than 30% of transactions, the CEO said Starbucks will tweak its algorithm so that it provides specific pickup times to customers. Investors are hoping Starbucks' stock returns are reminiscent of that tenure, too.

Black conservative radio host Shelley Wynter drew outrage from many when he broke down the Black male electorate in the U.S. into “house African Americans and field African Americans” during an appearance Wednesday on CNN. “This race is between house African Americans and field African Americans, and field African Americans are voting for [Donald] Trump.”During enslavement in the U.S., “house slaves” worked in the main house and generally performed indoor tasks. At the same time, Wynter’s comments highlighted the intensity surrounding the Black male vote and how influential it may be in November. “It just does a disservice to all of us, both as voters and as Black Americans. “There’s nothing that compares to enslavement in the United States or for Black Americans,” he said.

Nearly all buyers (95%) — including hedge funds, venture capital managers, and consultants — surveyed by research firm Neudata expect their 2025 budget to grow or remain the same. "The mood among alternative data buyers and sellers is one of confidence," the report reads in a section about the expected "budget boom." AdvertisementAnd this boom might hurt hedge funds' wallets. Alternative datasets have become increasingly viewed as table stakes, shifting from "nice to have" to "need to have" internally. The DOJ did not name Tenet Media but NBC News identified the company based on its description in the indictment. Unlike the influencers alleged to have been victims of RT and Tenet Media, who denied knowing they were working for Russia, Chen has said nothing since the indictment made news. “By connecting to and interacting with one another through YouTube videos, influencers with mainstream audiences lend their credibility to openly white nationalist and other extremist content creators,” Lewis wrote. Following the unsealing of the indictment, TheBlaze fired Chen and Turning Point USA removed her author page from its website. YouTube terminated all four of Chen’s pages, erasing thousands of videos and nearly a decade of work, including the channel for Tenet Media.

Now, the Justice Department is alleging that some of the biggest stars in right-wing social media were, unwittingly, part of a sinister Russian operation to influence the 2024 US election. What is Tenet Media? “Overt shilling”The Russians also pushed Tenet to promote videos that were going viral on social media, according to the indictment. Tenet Media has not responded to requests for comment and stopped posting content on Wednesday. After the 2016 US presidential election, congressional and federal investigations showed Moscow had successfully co-opted unwitting Americans to stage protests, run social media accounts and host events at its behest.

However, after EzDubs went through the Y Combinator startup program last year, the company made a quick pivot, adding Microsoft's cloud into the mix. That's because EzDubs' founders learned of a partnership that enabled Y Combinator companies to receive $350,000 worth of credits on Microsoft Azure. The current offer includes $350,000 in AWS credits, plus $300,000 reserved for tapping the custom silicon, the spokesperson said. A spokesperson later said 58% of Y Combinator startups had taken up Microsoft's credit offer, a figure that doesn't reflect actual Azure usage. "Leading AI startups use OpenAI to power their AI solutions, therefore, making them Azure customers as well."

Neo, the hero of “The Matrix,” is sure he lives in 1999. But he’s wrong: He lives in the future (2199, to be exact). Neo’s world is a simulation — a fake-out version of the late 20th century, created by 21st-century artificial intelligences to enslave humanity. But the movie’s warnings about A.I. Judged solely on cultural relevance, “The Matrix” might be the most consequential release of 1999.

For decades, many American cities had at least one thriving alternative-weekly newspaper chronicling the local art and music scene and reporting on the community. Many of those publications withered in recent years, but two of the country’s best known alt-weeklies, The Stranger in Seattle and The Portland Mercury, now have plans for expansion.
