President Biden’s decision on Wednesday to pardon thousands of L.G.B.T.Q.
service members who had been unfairly punished, discharged or court-martialed for their sexual orientation or gender identity was long overdue.
His proclamation will restore benefits and honor to 2,000 or so service members, just atonement for the U.S. military’s long, discriminatory history against L.G.B.T.Q.
service members were outed upon returning home, which inevitably led to further discrimination.
Their efforts culminated in the end of the notorious “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in 2011.
