CNN —A 13-year-old girl is the latest person to lose her life in New York City while “subway surfing,” a dangerous challenge attracting young people on social media. “Subway surfing,” involves riding on top of a subway car while its moving. Six subway surfing fatalities and 181 related arrests have been recorded this year through October 27, the New York Police Department told CNN on Tuesday. The 13-year-old died while participating in a social media challenge, his mother told WPIX, adding he’d posted to social media prior videos of himself doing the stunt and she’d warned him not to ride on top of trains. TikTok previously cooperated with New York authorities to remove subway surfing content, the New York Times reported in January.

CNN —A Wisconsin man and his daughter were found dead in Canyonlands National Park in Utah on Friday after the pair got lost and ran out of water while hiking amid soaring temperatures. Albino Herrera Espinoza, 52, and his daughter, Beatriz Herrera, 23, were visiting the southeast Utah park from their home in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and hiking the Syncline Loop Trail where the temperature at the time was over 100 degrees, according to the National Park Service. CNN —American Tyler Wenrich was sentenced to three weeks in jail and fined Tuesday after he had pleaded guilty earlier this month to possession of ammunition while traveling to Turks and Caicos. Two other Americans have pleaded guilty and are out on bail while they await sentencing while a third has pleaded guilty, been sentenced and has returned back to the US. Bringing firearms or ammunition into Turks and Caicos without prior permission from police is “strictly forbidden,” according to a statement from its government. In addition to Hagerich and Wenrich, one other American – Michael Lee Evans – pleaded guilty to possession of ammunition while traveling in Turks and Caicos, according to the territory’s government. No US citizen has received the 12-year sentence to date.

CNN —A judge in New Mexico denied Alec Baldwin’s motion to dismiss the involuntary manslaughter indictment against him in the “Rust” fatal shooting case, connected to the 2021 death of the film’s cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin’s attorneys had accused prosecutors of misconduct during the grand jury process and sought to have the case dismissed. Baldwin’s lawyers filed a motion to dismiss the indictment in March. In response to Baldwin’s team’s March motion to dismiss the indictment, special prosecutors in New Mexico defended their case, saying Baldwin’s behavior on the “Rust” movie set contributed to “safety compromises” that led to the fatal shooting. In the order to deny Baldwin’s motion to dismiss, the judge said despite the defense’s claims,there was no prosecutorial bad faith, as Baldwin’s legal team had claimed, and proper procedures were followed in the grand jury process.

In a “detailed, undeniable, unconflicted” deathbed confession to one of the investigators in the case earlier this month, Larry Webb admitted to fatally shooting Natasha “Alex” Carter, who was 10 at the time, and her mother, Susan Carter, nearly 24 years ago, Hatfield said. Webb told the investigator some of his cash in the home went missing, and Webb suspected Susan Carter had “spent a lot of money. “Almost lost hope several times.”Webb had been a suspect from the start of the investigation, authorities said. “The confession aligned with exactly the investigative efforts and the evidence collected” by authorities, Hatfield noted. Hours later, the bodies of Susan and Alex Carter were found, Hatfield said.
