COLUMBIA, S.C. — Susan Smith, who shocked the nation 30 years ago when she rolled her car into a lake with her two children inside and watched them drown, will ask a parole board Wednesday to release her from prison. Almost 30 years ago to the day, Susan Smith made international headlines when she said she was carjacked late at night near Union, South Carolina, by a Black man. Smith, now 53, has had an eventful three decades behind bars in South Carolina, including multiple disciplinary actions. As of Monday, 471 people had written to the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services regarding Smith's hearing. Former lead prosecutor and current South Carolina State Rep. Tommy Pope is also expected to speak in opposition.

Women’s gymnasticsArtistic gymnastics at the Paris Olympic Games came to a dramatic end Monday, as Biles was edged out for the gold medal in the floor exercise final. Monday’s silver on floor exercise was an 11th Olympic medal for Biles. Sweden’s Armand “Mondo” Duplantis set a world record in men’s pole vault Monday, adding to his stash of gold medals. The hosts and Egypt were deadlocked at 1 before France scored two goals in extra time to secure a spot in the gold medal match.

He hurt the ulnar nerve in his throwing elbow before tearing his pectoral muscle leading up to the Olympics.

Julien Alfred just won the FIRST Olympic medal EVER for Saint Lucia! Richardson missed out on delivering the United States’ first gold medal in the women’s 100 meters since Gail Devers in 1996. A Mississippi football player is suing coach Lane Kiffin and the school for racial and sexual discrimination and negligence, saying he was kicked off the team during a mental health crisis. DeSanto Rollins, a defensive tackle from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, filed the lawsuit Thursday in federal court in Oxford, Mississippi, where the school is located. “DeSanto was never removed from the football team and remains on scholarship. Rollins said Kiffin and defensive line coach Randall Joyner urged him last November to enter the transfer portal, but he declined. The complaint states Joyner told Rollins on March 1 that Kiffin wanted to meet with the player.

Dr. Farah has theorized that Hemingway suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which in later years would be linked to the suicides of former N.F.L. players who suffered the brain disease because of repeated concussions and other injuries. In Philadelphia in February, a first edition of Hemingway’s “In Our Time” from 1924 was auctioned for $277,000. Another signed letter was auctioned off last month at Nate Sanders Auctions, but went for much less: $6,875 after only one bid. In the crash letter — which was written on April 17, 1954, but was misdated as 1953 — Hemingway recounted the crashes and their effect on him, and told his lawyer Alfred Rice that he needed money.
